Cool. You could be posting some samples of your new ultra-mega-niftykins toy here, ya know!

just a thought! :D

And a bump...waiting for tracks...

Hey guys, I've got the guitar tracks done and I'll be uploading them in between the boss's evil gazes over my shoulder. Rokket, I left the distortion parts and your original clean part for you to do because...frankly, I liked yours better.

lol yeah.. I was real close a couple of times (after I settled on a few settings that I'm happy with) to re-do the drum tracks and upload em... But I figured that could wait until Purge finished his magic... (which it appears he has!) :)

We're running the final week of rehearsals before the play opens this weekend, so my schedule for the next few days is going to be nuts... But I'll definitely be able to redo them I'm thinking on Saturday...

Did we ever find someone to do keys?

I can run it past my keyboard player and see if he wants to lay something down... He just bought a new Korg that should be arriving this week, and he might want to break it in... :)

Guitar tracks are up! Here's the zip folder:

www.nlrstudio.com/mp3/collab/guitars_collab.zip

The 2 rhythm tracks should line up okay with the drums, but the solo will probably have to be manually moved into place because I am an idiot. :o

I threw an mp3 up there with the parts all combined:

Questions, comments, changes, whatever all welcome.

BTW Scrubs, your vocals are amazing.

It looks like I have some work cut out for me. I will have the bass redone probably by the end of the day. (It's 8:33 AM on Tuesday here). So give or take an hour or two, I can have the bassline up by 3PM my time...

Purge:
You liked my guitar parts better????? I can't play for shit! LOL! :) Is it the distorted tone? That's a Laney amp....
I was only going to do the original arpeggio, but I guess I can do one or two distorted tracks.

Unless someone else wants them?

Let me know...

I just checked out the mp3. I downloaded the zip. I am going to check it out and then get busy...

OK, the bass, and two distorted guitar tracks are uploading as we speak. They are wave files zipped into a folder with that name. It's going to take awhile...

I will have the last clean guitar track later today...

All that's left is the drums in stereo and the vocals, and we can put this one in the can...

is the drum part decided? or can i do them?

heh.

might give me something to do tomorrow.

ill just do them for fun anyway.

Yeah, BentRabbit's got it.... He is supposed to submit his part here soon. He just got his new gear...

But submit it if you do it. Just for fun...

I should have some time to lay down the tracks tonight (cross fingers)....

In regards to finished tracks, what are we looking for, stereofield-wise?

For our stuff, I usually mix right into the modules and fine tune before I get to the console... For this project, it sounds like folks want to have control over all mixing aspects, so I'll be breaking out the drums into individual tracks....

Normally, for acoustic drum recording, the only true stereo panning I do is on the overheads... I will mic the primaries (kick, snare, toms, etc) and put them on their own mono tracks, utilizing any left/right panning during mix-down for stereo creation. With the digitals, we're open to pretty much any possibility tho....

Here's what/how I'm thinking about recording/posting them:

1. Kick
2. Snare
3. Hi-Hat
4. Ride
5. Hi Toms
6. Low Toms
7. Right Cymbals
8. Left Cymbals

That'll be 8 tracks of drums and allow full artistic license for folks to mix down as they see fit...

Or I could just center the kick and snare individually, set up a stereo track capturing all the toms, another capturing hats/ride, and a 3rd stereo for the cymbals... Less control at mixdown that way tho...

Thoughts?

Go with the 8 separate drum tracks. It will be much easier at mixing time to make everything fit.

That's what I was thinking too... But I also want to be conscious of folks who might only have sumpin like an MR8 to work with... But I suppose if needed, a special pre-mixed set of condensed tracks could be sent for them.

We also have this option:

1. Kick
2. Snare
3. Hats
4. Ride
5. 8" Tom
6. 10" Tom
7. 12" Tom
8. Floor Tom
9. Tamborine
10. Wind Chimes
11. Cymbals Left
12. Cymbals Right

That would allow the most control, but I'm really not sure how important it is to actually split out each individual tom for this particular song...

But again... I'll leave it up to the other collaborators...

:)

Edit: I should mention that recording 12 tracks would entail a bit more configuration on my part... Since I can only do 8 simultanously on my VF16, I would have to Midi synch with my MR8 to do 2 more tracks, and either add the percussion later, or Midi out to my laptop also and grab two tracks there...

More setup time, but it can be done... :)

Ummm...I hate to state the obvious (and please let me know if I am missing something), but you seem to have mistakenly left the Cowbell track off your list. I mean, windchimes are great and everything, but I gotta have more cowbell. You're gonna want that cowbell.

:D :D :D

Damn thing won't let me give you any rep today, rabbit :( . I'll check back tomorrow.

hahahahahahahahahaha

(Actually... I was going to sneak the cowbell in on the windchime track... Let folks settle into a nice ambient space at the beginning... Give it about an 8 count...

And then....

WHAMMO!!!!

:D

It wouldn't let me get you either...
