Well there ya go bud...
Throw on a 4/4 and follow it with a 3/4 and what do you have?

:D
I can't tell from the mp3 which way this is going, or when he is going to have the keyboard come in.... I think I need to have drums before I can lay a good bass line....

Tenkas, you are going to have to play the whole song. Just go off the scratch track I have and give us the whole track, with the organ voicing you were going to use..

I think from that we can lay the drum tracks and build it from there. Going this route is just going to be scratch tracks passed back and forth with no direction or structure. We'll never get a song done that way.

We need to build the song from the drums up, so give us the keyboard guide track and let's get this thing on the road!

I will do everything I can... but I have a show coming up this thursday, I am studying HARD as hell at college, so I guess I may be able to write the song in the bus or something.

I will try to get it ALL for the weed-end

Listening to that keyboard part.. I kinda want to do something. Ha.

I'd play drums if I had a nice kit at my house.. if you're looking for a raw sounding kit. That's what I've got.

If you need some help, I can do some guitar.

I have only had time to give it a quick listen, but from what I heard, it's totally workable... :)

I used to be in a fusion/prog project where we sometimes went a little overboard in odd time sigs... Couldn't ever dance to the stuff but God it was fun... :D

One of my plays opens this weekend so I'll be freed up from rehearsals to hopefully lay something down for you to work off... If no one else has tinkered on it by then.

(Give me an excuse to record with my new Hart/Roland hybrid ) :D

I PM'd Tenkas and told I a was going to put up the song as I originally wrote it (very subdued mix, only drum, guitar and bass with the vocal), so we can rewrite it to the new tempo.... I will have it done by Monday my time (so Sunday evening???)

It's got the potential to be cool, so I will get on it ASAP :D

Hey, I'll play to a click. :)
Did you want me to send some ideas your way?
P.M. me when you get a chance, Bd

I just redid my scratch track to make it a semi-complete song (with my limited guitar playing ability). It's now posted as an MP3 on my soundclick page.

It's called "You".

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/eddiestoreymusic.htm

So we can work on this with a clearer goal. Everything in this song is subject to change, of course (including the lyrics).

I think the first step is to get the drums to 7/8 timing. But what about tempo? This song was recorded at 80 bpm, which is kind of slow, I think, for 7/8 timing.

Tenkas, it's in your court now. You can play with the chord progression however you see fit. But give us the tempo you have in mind...

I know that the vocal is off key in several places.... It was done in a hurry. I was not trying to get the finished product up, only a scratch track to work off of.

I will check back and see what developes...

Let me know right away if this is usable or not...

Tanx...

I can't remember if I 'earned' those or not...

HaHaHaHa! :D

Some woman in my office gave me some beads on Fat Tuesday to bring home to my daughter.

Since she's 3, she has no idea what they are about. So I explained about Mardi Gras (like she's going to understand), and then I asked her if she knew how to get them. She said no.

I told her to lift up her shirt.

She did.

I gave her the beads.

And my wife slapped me in the back of the head!

I'm a bad boy

Did anyone listen to the mp3 I posted?

I gave it a listen. Sounds like a good start. I may rewrite some of the lyrics, if you don't mid. I would really need to hear the song in 7/8 to know how the vocal would fit. I guess we'll wait for tenkas and some crazy drummer to lay something down. IMO, it would be easier to have standard 4/4 in the verses and the 7/8 for instrumental breaks, but I never was any good at math. :o

Rewrite as you see fit. I wrote the lick in less than five minutes, ditto on the lyrics. It's a shaky second draft at best....

We need the drum and organ tracks now....

Well, I don't exactly know what I can contribute playing wise, but if no one else wants to take charge of the mixing responsibility, I'll gladly mix this beast when it's recorded. If anyone wants any parts layed down just let me know and I can at least give it a shot.

I can play:
Drums
Guitar (Rythms or Leads, but my lead work is pretty good and I think I could fit something cool into the song)
Bass
Sing
SOME keys (but i'd rather have someone else more qualified take the responsibility for that)

I won't speak for anyone else, but that would be ok with me. I think there was some talk of PMC#9, but I don't see this getting done in time for that. We still need Tenkas to lay his scratch keyboard track and someone to play the drums in 7/8 timing.

I like the idea of doing the vocals in 4/4 and instrumentals in 7/8....

But I don't want to take charge of this either. It's Tenkas' idea, so....

If you want to lay the drum tracks, go for it.... I think there are others on here that want to play drums for it too...

I think we need to start communicating a bit more....

Agreed.

I can give drums a shot if you like.
If you can do the 7/8 timing for what I have (tenkas didn't take the lyrics into account with his organ track)... Let's see what we can do!

This is the call: Drummers, let's see what you can do with this track, use Tenkas' mp3 and my track as a guide, and let's get this thing on the road! :D

I gave a quick listen to Tenkas' keys last night and started to map it... Of course, I was going off 4 hours sleep and I didn't get to it until after midnight, but it sounds like the opening is 7/8 (or 7/4 depending on how you're counting it) and it does settle into a short 4/4 groove towards the end before it jumps back out to 7/4...

A couple of the tripleted-type riffs almost appeared to be in more of a 5/4... Not sure as I only was able to tinker on it for about 15 minutes...

But it definitely doesn't stay in 7 for the entire shot...

I gave Rokket's scratch trak a listen at work (definite potential!!) and merging the two will be interesting... Rokket's was sitting at 80 bpm I think, which puts Tenka's at 7/8 TS but seems like it has a better feel at 7/4 (160 bpm)...

I might be a little more freed up after this weekend and can give a more concentrated effort at merging the two and supply basic a foundation....

If no one else has has stepped up with their sticks by then....

:)

Mine was at 80 bpm, good job! :D

The idea was suggested that we do the vocal sections in 4/4 and then jump to instrumentals in 7/8...

Whaddaya think o' that?

It might work....
