Anyone using a firewire interface with a long cable?

I have a video interface that I use with a 70 foot firewire cable. I know firewire is only rated for a maximum length of 15 feet. But that is only applicable for maximum bandwidth. Video does not require maximum bandwidth so this long cable works great with my video interface.

I was hoping to use this cable with my new M-audio Firewire 410. It supplies power to the interface but the interface doesn't connect with the M-audio driver.

So I'm wondering if anyone here has used a long firewire cable successfully with an audio interface.

Wow. A FireWire question that I can't answer.... If the device shows up and you don't get constant disconnects or bus resets, use it. It will either work or it won't, and if it won't, there's not much chance of making it work. Maybe a powered hub on each end, but even that isn't guaranteed to work, given how drastically that exceeds the spec....

Ever consider an optical repeater? $230 plus a piece of fiber will get you up to a kilometer. :D

I've used long 1394 cables, but not *that* long. That is some crazy junk.

Give it a go and let us know how it works.

It supplies power to the interface but the interface doesn't connect with the M-audio driver. The video interface that works is powered and that probably is why it works with the long cable. M-audio says not to power the interface when using it with a 6 pin cable.

How long are the cables you have used?
