A little update for all who have been helping me so far:
The Delta 1010 and JBL monitors are now running smooth -- no pops or crackles. Alfalfa pointed out it was the reciever's fault. :) I ended up getting Sonar and upgraded it to 2.2 off Cakewalk's web site. I have one used Sure 4 channel Mic mixer, but I'd like to have the capability of recording individual mic tracks.
So - I guess I need some mic preamps. I was going to get the 8 Channel SMProAudio PR8, ($200), but Musician's Friend is back ordered on them. But maybe some diversity of preamp would be good for recording different instruments / people?
I'm looking for at least 2 channels. Some people have said get the Audio Buddy; however, I did see a Behringer that I liked: the MIC 2200, Ultragain Pro. ($99) Is it any good? I liked that it is a rack mount.
Anyway, I don't mean to be "a cheap you know what" about this, but I'm way over budget from getting those JBL monitors, and then deciding on a Delta 1010 instead of a cheaper card... so if there is any preamp that is halfway decent for low cost.... I can always get a better one later.
Thanks,
Jed

Actually...if your looking at the Behringer unit...spend another 70 to 80 bucks and get the Behringer T1953 ultragain. I have it and it sounds pretty good. Very quiet. You can control how much "tewb" :) sound you have with separate warmth controls. It also has the backlit VU meters that give it that old vintage look.

Anyway, I got mine for $160.

God Bless!

Behringer stuff has always been sort of taboo, but i've actually heard good things about the ultragain preamps. Now don't hold me to this, i don't actually know for sure, and i don't know which model or anything, but i just heard that. So i think it would be worth looking into.

Maybe do a search on the forum and see if anything pops up? I most likely read the good things on this board at some point.

The Rack forum would be a better choice for this question.

People on the harmony central forums like the ultragain better than the audiobuddy. At that price there isnt much competition if you need two channels. I would probably avoid using the eq on it.

Thanks for the info on the Behringer -- I'll try to look around this board and the 'net for reviews before I make the final decision.
Man, that SMProAudio 8 channel is sure cheap for that many channels, though...wonder if it just sucks, or maybe it's just because it's made in Korea? Or maybe both? :)

EDIT: How would I move this thread to the rack? -- thanks.

I don't think you can move it your self, only a moderator.
Maybe just make a new post in the rack section, but formulate a new questions factoring in all the new information you have learned.

People get touchy about "cross posting" here, where you post the same question in multiple board. But thats generally when you copy/paste the same question, and you do it on many different sections, and you do it at the same time. nothing wrong with asking another question though.

Ambi - Thanks for the tip. :) I'll try not to step on anyone's toes...over to the rack forum now.
