I did my tally of the songs I have written over the last few years, and it turns out to be about 300+

That comes out to around 100 songs a year, or one every 3 days. I could do more if the money was right.

Anyone need a song? In any style?

Impressive! I thought that the 100 or so that I've written over 5 years was good.

Nothing?

I'm suprised that I've had NO inquiries regarding my songs.

For all anyone knows I'm giving them away. For all anyone knows I'm Bob Dylan.

What's up with this board?

You've got a marketing problem. First, you have your name: everyone's going to assume you're writing rap. You've said elsewhere that's not the case, but that's the way it looks. Second, you've got a lot of songs written very quickly. It'd seem probable that you haven't taken time to fine tune them, to perfect them. Third, you haven't provided some examples in this thread. Fourth, you're throwing an attitude over folks not inquiring, which is caused by the first three.

None of this is good marketing, none of it helps you brand yourself as a pro.

Just some advice about marketing, not an attack.

I hit your site. We're only about an hour away from each other. Life is beautiful up here. Throw up a set of lyrics and see what everyone thinks, Dave.

In his defense, he didn't say they were good songs. He said he just had songs.

If I counted all the crap I've come up with over the years, it would be in the hundreds.

Here's an example

Here's an example of a song I wrote in under 5 minutes...

The Flat Bored Blues

This is a 'simple' one, as my goal while writing it was to be as simple as possible. Most of them are better, some are worse. I performed this recording just minutes after I wrote it.

It's called the 'Flat Bored Blues.' I was inspired to this theme as a parody of another Upper Michigan blues band ... UP-Fiddler probably knows who I'm referring to :D .

It's a good possibility it sounds a lot better through headphones, cuz that's how I mixed it... Who knows.

The Flat Bored Blues - By the Flat Bored Blues Band

Wake up in the mornin' make a-my-way downstairs
Run a comb thru my teeth and then a brush through my hair

I never know what I'm doin' today
I just know that nothin's comin my way

I got the blues... The Flat Bored Blues.

**********

Put on some coffee and then I make some toast
The days get so long but I make the most

Of the same old tempo - again and again
The same old song and the same old friends

I got the blues... The Flat Bored Blues

*******

It never gets loud no it never gets soft
That's why it never even gets me off

The same old song is runnin through my head
With the same old lyrics and the same old bread

I got the blues... The Flat Bored Blues

********

One of these day's I"m gonna sing me a song
Something like no-one's ever done before.

But it's hard to do - if you walk in my shoes
Every single day it takes a minute or two

To write the blues... The flat bored blues

Sofar I think I have at least an album of:

Blues
Rock
Progressive
Jazz
Rap
Soul/R&B/Oldies
Punk

I know... I've been really really tempted to ditch the name AND the website name for something a lot more generalized. I just happened to be producing a few rap projects when I hit the web, hence....

Nice arrangement. It is carrying the added bass of a headphone mix. I'm pretty sure I know of which band you speak. :o Later, DAve.

Eq

Roll off the EQ steeply at 30Hz and pull a few DB off around 150Hz and it sounds OK.

I'll probably get around to re-mixing later. That's what happens when I try to mix late after the ol' lady has gone to sleep...

My Songs

Of course there would be certain stipulations concerning the use of the music. For one, I'd have to ALWAYS get songwriting credit.

If anyone intends to make money on the stuff - - well we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Hey dude, I have an idea.

Why don't you release an album and see if you can sell it? That way you get all the credit and all the profit.

If you aren't very exited about the potential of your own stuff I don't see why anyone else should be.

Songs

I'll post a couple as requested. I've been SLAMMED this week with requests for this and that so I'll get to it soon...

Here's a couple of tunes I've had laying around to start it off. I'll upload some punk and a few of my favorites as requested.

If you want me to write a song specific to your band, send me a clip so I can get a feel for the instrument and sound pallet that I have to work with.

One of my first songs ever. Improv'd studio outtake from 1997.

Gypsy jazz... Written on the spot (drunk in a Minneapolis kitchen)

I like Tom Waits:

This one's fairly recent and pretty decent.

It's tough to record anything decently when I'm working alone. It's such a remote area that it's hard to find people who want to write & jam!!!!! :(

Pm

I got the PM... I've been so slammed this week, but just yesterday I finally got to scope out the website that you recommended.

Maybe soon

I hope to be trying to practice my production techniques pretty soon. I'd be interested in just about anything except rap or punk. I don't think I'd be any good at music that I don't listen to, so there wouldn't be any point.

BTW, I'm just talking about practicing my skills, not putting out a record or anything. Just fun and practice. I'd want the ability to try anything any way I wanted to, and to put it up in the mp3 forum for critique. You of course would get the credit for writing, me for producing.

If you're interested, PM me.

Where you at? I've been known to drive 150+ km for a good jam session....
