I contacted him already when the mishap took place. I've known Bobby for years, he's also ex pink floyd sound crew and a straight up guy. He assured me he made a genuine mistake by sending mix the previous unit.

Regarding the Best unit mix has now got....... Best changed its name to powerware http://www.powerware.com/ a while ago, and powerware make the best units - period. Over here I've got one large ADC conditioner and three 1000 output Best units, exactly the same ones Mix now has, and they are fantastic.

One thing tough - ALL thoroid conditioner (in other words, all real conditioners) are EXTREMELY noisy, and you can definately NOT have them anywhere in a control room. I've got mine in the machine room, and the conditioners happily drown the noises of multiple SAN drives, two G4's and a PC. In fact, just one of the conditioners would. Move it well away from your control room and you're in business

That's all fine and well sjoko, but the fact remains that this is the second time mix didn't get what he ordered.

I appreciate that, and it does piss me off, especially as I did recommend him.

I fired up my Topaz last night and it's dead quiet. Does that mean I only have a regulator and not a conditioner? I was a little skeptical because it is labled as a regulator but the guy at the repair shop said it was most definately a conditioner also.

It's a Topaz 75101 1.5kva Line Regulator and I couldn't find any info on the net.

I can say that when my system is cranked to 100% there is a slight hum but 25-35% is my normal mixing level and 50% would blow up my monitors. At normal operating levels it is dead quiet.

I don't know the Topaz product you're talking about. The Best and ADC ones I've got are easy to test, put a high or low voltage in them and what comes out at the other end is the same voltage. I've only tried once, and fed it voltages ranging from 50 to 200, and the output provides the same 120, always. However, that's not all they do, the reduction in noisefloor creates an immediate increase in headroom over the entire system.

First off, I would like to thank Sjoko for trying to assist in recommending products and a place where to possibly purchase them and all the help I have gotten from him. I also feel Mr. Patchbay has dealt with me in a timely fashion, and has replied to my emails immediately. Unfortunately I feel this last unit is not meeting my needs, and I have email Mr. Patchbay about my wants to return this unit also. I am not sure if the unit is defective or not (as this is my first Best Technolgies power conditioner), but it IS adding noise to my system, after a final test and installation outside my control room, and the voltage output of the unit is fluctuating enough that that in itself bothers me also. Also, when I apply a "load", it really drops...but if only for a couple seconds. I do not have the abilties to apply a significantly varying voltage to its input, but am just "hearing" and seeing the output.

Should anyone be interested... I'll post an update what's going on in this end.

Again, thanks for everyones help and input in this matter.
