I was looking for a wired mic (one day will go wireless). The front runners are the Audio Technica atm35, pro 35ax, and even considered the Shure beta 98. This will be used only for a saxophone. Anyone have any reviews, suggestions, opinions? I did a search, but didn't find much on these mics.

The atm35 is a great mic on brass, woodwind even snare and toms, I sold mine when I was strapped for cash last year. The prices have since gone way up on ebay :(

Everything I have tried from the pro range was rubbish athough I am told the pro25 is ok. The pro 35ax seems to be deliberately crippled at 15000Hz.

The ATM35 takes the at853 capsules so you can make it hypercardioid and omni too.

For clip-on mics, a lot of brass players seem to really like the Shure beta 98's.

I use the ATM 35 and like it a lot...for a clip on. Ordinarily, I like to be able to adjust my distance from the mic depending on the music occurring at the moment so generally I prefer not to use it. When I used it a lot, I used it on my Tenor, a 1947 Conn 10M (meaty ;) ). Much love,
Cuzme

Bet that bad boy sounds awesome. Do you have any recordings?
I picked up a used ATM35 for $136 shipped ($125+11 shipping).
Thanks for the help fellas.
