Recently I was walking past a sidewalk sale (Yard sale) and I spotted a piece of rack gear which is a Symetrix CL-150 compressor. It was priced at $10.00 and I figured "What the hell?" So when I informed the woman running the sale that I'd like to buy it she (On what appeared to be her 65th Martini of the afternoon) said $2.00 and I said "Okay!"

Anyone ever use this unit or have any comments on how I might use it?

Anyone with a manual for it?

How bad does it suck?
Thanks

i have one. you got a good deal. not an amazing deal (they only run about $40).

they are pretty similar to the dbx 160 type compressors, but many people think they are superior.

i find mine to be pretty high fi sounding, not as clean as the rnp, but it imparts a pretty nice color to the signal. the compression circuit is nice sounding, not as accurate as the RNC, but with way more mojo. nice on voice, snare.

Cool thanks.

Do I use it as an insert piece of gear?

I should imagine so

If you mean: "Do I use it with the Channel Inserts?" That is.

generally yes, compressors are run as inserts.

you can do some interesting things with compressors using them as sends and mixing the compressed and uncompressed signal... but generally you dont do that.
