Looks just right for me.
Outboard mixer/preamps into the PC drive.

It would be my first attempt at recording from phone plugs down thru RCA type into the PC. I suppose a Soundblaster Live is no longer good enough to capture onto disc, but how about the Aardvark stuff?

I think you have posted this question before. As I said before I would go for a Tascam US428 instead. I dont knwo anyone who uses or has used a U-8 and there doesn't seem to be much of a buzz surrounding them. The 428 sounds pretty good and is easy to use. Also loads of people have it so you can share thoughts with them.

be careful

I've used a UA-100 for couple of years and have visited with edirol tech support a lot.

The U8 looks amazing, but the tech guy himself told me that they've never really got all the bugs worked out of it. And he advised that it wasn't as great as it looks.

I also asked about the Tascam, and was told that it's good if you only use the sequencer software (I think cubase) that it comes with. Or you upgrade to the full cubase. Cubase is great, so if you're looking to go that direction, it might be good.

I'd just say find out as much as you can. Like the last guy said, it's kind of interesting that nobody's really talked abou the U8 much.

Hey thanks guys. Sorry if I re-posted, but I post so much crap these days that sometimes I forget to search first...

Looks like the only answers I've gotten are negative ones, what a booo.
It looked good in the ad.
