Anyone else looking forward to the Studio Projects B1?

SP B1

I was impressed with the SP B1 when I tested it at AES.

I was also impressed with the MXL 603s under the same listening conditions.

I have the MXL's now and I'm not dissappointed. So based on these factors, I'm pretty confident that the B1 will perform nicely. Unless there was some abra-cadabra going on under the table at the Studio Projects booth at AES!

I'm also curious how the B1 will do "against" my NT1. I may end up wishing that I got a second NT1 instead of the pair of B1's. We'll see.

I'm sure that, for the price, we will be happy with our purchases. The question is whether we will be thrilled and amazed. For me, they will be an option for stereo recording. I'll either use ECM8000, 603s, or B1, depending on the mood/vibe/situation.

Oh, and welcome to the club. Groucho Marx and I are not members.

O.K. that does it, we're booked for Oprah next month, and the topic
is "microphone madness"! Let's plan on a real heart to heart session
and get in touch with our innermost feelings. Group hug anyone?

P.S. The A1/steak sauce association was great.
So how about the B1/bomber- surely subliminal advertising?!

Man,all this talk about spam is getting me hungry!Randy wants a spamburger!Well, actually not, spam is kinda gross, but if you don't eat it,what the hell else are you gonna do wid it?

Toorglick, welcome to the forum and your trial by fire!People got some thin skins around here lately and you can't bring up certain mics around here without being accussed of spam.No worries though! It's only words on a screen, take the good with the bad, wheat with the chaff, weed with the seed etc. It's a good site filled with good people that like to help.It helps ALOT if you don't have a thin skin, don't let it get to ya man,it ain't no thing but a chicken wing!

Regarding the B-series,where did you pre order your mic?I called 8th st yesterday and some dude named "Randy"was supposed to e-mail me back but he never did.I don't trust anyone named 'Randy",probably not even his real name, sounds made up to me.I'll try calling again today,I want to make sure I get one of the first shipments of the TB-1,I've been waiting for the frickin thing forever, with my luck the first shipment will be sold out and I'll be holding nothing but my d**k in my hands. If that happens, screw it,I'll buy a NTK or something.

And no,I've never tried the B-series (obviously).I don't drive and there is no place handy to try out mics so I have to buy most of my gear sight unseen.I always buy equipment from someplace with a generous return policy so if I don't like something ,I can ship it back and only be out shipping.Mars music has a no return policy on mics so I won't buy from them.Really though,I haven't had to return anything(well I got a MXL 2001p I should have returned but by the time my ears grew into it,it was too late).

I really want a TB-1 and when I get it I'll post my impressions here.Y'all have to keep in mind that I am a hobbyist and have limited experience with a large variety of mics but that is okay as I don't intend to compare it to Neumann or any other high end mic.I'll just give my opinions on it based on its standing on its own.If I end up thinking I wasted three bills I'll let you know,if I decide that it was the best three hundred I ever spent I'll let you know that also.No spam, ham, clams or any other type of food, just my opinion.

I'm all hot and bothered for the TB-1 as well! ;)

Hey Alan,

Can we expect to see the TB-1 in the same shipments as the B1? Also, any chance of sub-$300 prices?

At the very least Mr. Hyatt doesn't seem like the asses you and CDT-sHaG seem to be.

uh......

i was joking..:D..maybe i shouldn't.....

as a forum refresher, this is an indicator of a joke------->:D

but i had just read through some other posts here.....

seems a lot of people were getting offended at the "drop of a hat"

and get really argumentive over things, like, MICROPHONE MODS!!??

there are some that have great senses of humor about things also..those posts are great..imho..

i mean come on..it's not like your saving the world! lol..

life is short and it's nice to loosen up a bit and laugh sometimes...

And I didn't say one thing personally to you, toorglick.

But you felt the need to call me an ass..

well, LOL.........get a life.

lighten up bro, your mic purchase is fine with me!!!:D

buy a damn tape recorder mic and fart "dixie" into it for all I care...:D

again, indicator of a joke------->:D

and BTW i own an ART MP...I joked about that too...

peace, out.

Jimistone Quote: there is a music store about an hour from here and they handle studio projects C series of mics. I'll have to admit, their price was right there with the online prices. This was last week, and heres the kicker, they said they are a dealer of studio projects brand and they never even heard of the B series of mics. when i told them the aproximate retail prices they were really interested. morrison bros is a high profile store in mississippi

Jimistone,

I've got to tell you, Morrison Bros.'s pro audio people have never really struck me as being terribly knowledgeable or courteous (the younger guys anyway). I went in there one day to pick up an extra SM57. The sales man stares into the mic case for a minute or two...

"We're out..."
"Do you guys have any in the back"
"-sigh-"
He comes back a few minutes later...mic in hand
"$140"
"Is that list?"
"Yeah"
"Is there any way we can work the price down?"
He pretends to type something into his computer...
"$125"
At this point I just smiled at him and walked away.

Now, I'm not saying he was lazy, but charging an extra $60 just because he had to get off of his ass? I would have let this go if it had only happened once (bad day, hangover, breakup, whatever his problem was), but that kind of attitude seems to be pretty normal up there. Maybe you could tell me who you were talking to because I was blown away that somebody there was actually giving you online prices and was interested in newly released microphones. Maybe they just don't like me.

Hey Alan,

Dolemite,

Yeah, all the models are shipping, but I must admit, the TB-1's have already sold out to my dealers. I am sure they did not pre-sell out, but if you want one...make sure you book one as my next shipment is 60 days or more. It will take a few shipments to determine what the correct mix for inventory will be, and I obviously got it wrong on TB1's and B3's this time around, but they will be out there.

The TB1 is $299.00 in the stores, so I am told... While it may be a little more than some other Tube mics, it should establish itself quickly as in use, they are just really good. Time will tell all.

For the record, we never have any hocus pocus in our rack. It is an 8 channel PreSonus mic pre into a RANE Headphone amp...Nothing else! So demo's at the show are just mic...nothing else.

Alan,I just got off the horn with 8th st and they told me it will be about ten days before I can even place an order.I think that really sucks as I am a motivated buyer and ready to place my order now.I'll tell you 8th st just lost my business and if I can't find a TB-1 elsewhere I guess I'll be looking for another mic to purchase.I am not going to wait and see if I won the TB-1 lottery,I am ready to purchase a mic,not wait a couple more weeks and then see if I MIGHT get one.

Music123 is saying they're not expecting to ship the B1 until May 13th! From day to day it seems the shipping date on this line changes.

Toorglick, did they tell you that?I just got off the horn with them and they said they would ship either the same day or the next day that they recieve their stock.Well May 13 isn't even that far away as long as I know that a TB-1 has my name on it.I never dealt with Music123 before,I really hope they don't let me down.If they do it will be the last time I deal with them.

Yeah,I did it Alan, had that credit card all warmed up and ready to go.Don't know what is up with 8th st.Had to call them twice, sent them an e-mail and finally they said that they weren't taking orders for another 10 days.I not really asking them to ship the damn thing to me this week,I just wanted to make arrangements so that they do start shipping that I could be sure that I would get one.I really don't intend to wait another two months until the next shipment,I've been holding out on buying a new mic since about Christmas and if I miss out on a TB-1 so be it.I'm fairly confident that Music123 will come through for me though so I expect to have my TB-1 within a week or so.It shouldn't take rocket scientists to not sell more mics than you have coming in but we are talking about an online company so you never know.

Man,I been waiting for a while and now I feel like a kid counting down the days til Christmas,I just hope that I don't end up with coal in my stocking!

Randy, I sent an email yesterday trying to get confirmation that I have reserved one of the B1s in their first shipment of them. According to the email they sent today, the B1 is due May 13th. I sent them an email right after I read that but haven't heard back from them.

Not surprisingly, before I hit "send" on the order form they responded to my inquiries within a few hours. Now they seem less enthusiastic to reply.

Toorglick, what they told me is that they will ship either the day or the day after they recieve their stock.I really don't care as long as I recieve my mic in a reasonable amount of time and as long as I recieve one of the mics in the first shipment.I am not going to wait another two months or so for the next shipment.I really want a TB-1 but if after making every effort to find one I strike out I guess it is not meant to be.Maybe I'll pick one up next year but it sure won't be this year.

I really hope Music123 does the right thing by me but what will be will be.I gotta come up with a contigency plan for if they do screw me over. One way or another I will have a new mic within a couple weeks,I'm really hoping it's the SP TB-1.

"We apologize for the inconvenience. We are doing our best to get you this item as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the manufacturer pushed the back order date back."

That's what Music123 told me. However, they also assured me I will get my B1 when they get their first shipment in. This was via several emails throughout this afternoon. I take back my snide enthusiasm comment; so far their CS has been very good.

Wow, I don't know what to say. They will have it well before then. In fact they should have it Thursday or Friday. You can email soundpure.com or macmidimusic.com or musicenter.com, or just get on our site and find a dealer to order from. I do not know what Randy at 8th Street will not take your pre-order. In either case, they will have the mics way before then, so I just can't explain it. 8th Street is pretty good, so I just think Randy is confused a bit.

Music 123 is not even in my database, unless they go by another name, so Randy, I think you better have a contingency plan, or have the dealer call us now...but we do not show them as having an order in house. We have so many that I could be wrong, but I looked and do not see them. Don't worry Randy, I will make sure that no matter what you get one. I will put one aside especially for you, so no matter what dealer you order from, I will have it here, so whoever you order it from...just let me know. I will not let you down.

C7, I sent you the unit, but you moved!!! :D :D :D :D

Thank you Alan.I think I will call Music123 tomarrow and see what is up.I might have to call 8th St back also but so far I haven't had much luck with them,I've called them a few times and sent them an e-mail with the only response being that I can order my mic in about ten days.I don't want to wait ten days to order just to find out the first shipment of TB-1's is sold out.But if Music123 is not in your database then they must have one of your distributers as their source so ordering from them would assure me of nothing. There is a new distributor of yours right in Northampton but I don't usually buy from him as he charges near retail but maybe I'll call him and see what is up.Really though,if I could just get 8th St to take my order so I could get one of the first shipments I would be happy.Even if it takes them a couple weeks to get it to me that would be okay.Shit, all I want to do is give them my money,music123 had no trouble taking my order and they aren't even one of your distributers!:D

Thanks again Alan.

Well I canceled my order at music123,when I explained why they tried to steer me towards a mic they have in stock.I went to macmidi.com and I got excited when I saw that they were advertising the TB-1,then I read ;List price $399,special sale price:$399.They have all the B-series advertised at list prices for their "special"sale prices!

So the quest continues.I'll call the local dealer tomarrow but they even sell Squier's at list price no I'm not too optimistic there.I'm getting a bad feeling that maybe 8th st didn't want to let me preorder because they want to see what the market will bear before they set their prices.I'm going to keep trying but I'm starting to get a little bummed.

I went to soundpure.com and couldn't find Studio Projects(although I did see Joe Meek),then I went to musicenter.com and got a page written in spanish! Not my day I guess.I'll give it a go in the morning.

If Music123 isn't an official dealer, will PMI still honor the warranty?

maybe this will help you guys decide whether or not to buy from music123.

the drummer thats my partner in the studio im putting together just got the set of headphones he ordered from music123

he placed the order last September ...LOL ..im serious

thats a long time to wait....but they refunded his money this past december (said they couldn't get the headphones)

you just have to take the good with the bad i guess :D

i ordered a korg d1600 from musicians friend and they bumped the ship date back 30 days for 3 months in a row.

they told me it would ship the next day when i ordered it

I didn't think i was ever gonna get it. the phantom power went out on 3 channels..but...there ain't no way they're getting it back to fix.

im going to let a music store here fix the phantom power and pay for it

Randy,

I believe the correct address is:

http://www.musiccenterinc.com/

I know cuz I shop there and they deal SP stuff. Wisconsin, right Alan?

Ask for a guy named Steve Filer or a guy named Todd. They're alright dudes who'll give you the right price, I'm sure.

I don't do internet with them since they are only 10 miles away but give em a call....that should do it.

Hope this helps,

heylow

In Fact:
http://www.musiccenterinc.com/MCI/s...=MICS & MIC PREAMPS&BND=Studio Projects&FIND=

There is your price...all the way down at the bottom!!!
