Anyone else HATE Line 6???

First things first, The Spider line is the garbage line! It's all cheap offending sounding garbage. Whenever we're playing a show and one of the other bands pulls out a Spider, I leave, they kill your ears! I own a JCM 900, Ampeg VL502 and A Line 6 POD XT Live run through a Crate Powerblock (my current rig). Tube rules, I don't think anyone will argue that fact, but, I love the POD XT Live for its versatility. You don't need 20 stomp boxes with this rig and if you know what you want for your sound you can get it . I would never expect to get TRUE tube sound out of my Line 6 products but they serve their purpose.

Tube amps are great and all that, but sometimes the Roland Jazz Chorus is just the thing.

To me it's a "must have" SS amp.

Amen brother, it's the ONLY SS amp I'd ever buy.

It lets people on a tight budget get into 'the game'. Why can't people understand this? Some of us really can't afford high end gear.

Wait who doesn't have $4,000.00 to drop on an amp at any givin time?

I hate Line 6. They are the reason I havent played electric guitar in years. I got the amp thinking digital would be cool. Then shortly after I didnt really like its sounds any more. I bought a spyder 1 10'(or12) not sure. the cheapest one. At the time it was 400 dollars, the idiot I am bought it. About a month or two later my friend gets it. For 300 dollars. At this point I hate the amp ... and he got it 100 dollars cheaper. I totally stink. I wish i could have those 400 dollars back so I can use it a little wiser instead of jumping on it because its 60 watts! 6 TIMES AS MUCH AS MY 10 WATT PRACTICE AMP!

I hate my life.

Dude - the sound isn't the problem - the sound was amazing. Keep in mind that I came from a Fender tube amp (just too small) and Boss FX. When I first played my Les Paul thru this rig, I was floored at how tight and creamy the distortions were, and how crystal clear the cleans were. It really does have some fantastic sound coming out of it.

The problem is that it crackles, and eventually, at least with the first one I had, that caused it to shut off and smell like melted wire. Now the 2nd one is going the same way, crackling when I play chords at high volumes.

One guy suggested the cab should be checked to be sure it isn't the cause, and I am doing that tomorrow - I'm willing to try it one more time, with everything new.

On the other hand, I do realize that you get what you pay for and that this head is relatively cheap. I just want it to be able to do what it says it can do, and stay alive while doing it. It may not ever, so I'm looking at all the options.

The fact that it has happened to both amps sounds like there could be a short somewhere between amp and speaker cab. Maybe the wires on your 1/4" speaker cab jack plug or amp socket are touching or shorting which will eventually kill the output trannys on your Line 6 amp or any other amp for that matter.

Just a thought.

I've not read this whole thread, but I've never had a good Line 6 experience, and that includes trying to resell amps.

I loathe Line 6. I feel I dont like line because of how just like vintage gear and stuff of the sort alot better.

For me Line 6 is too modern. I guess I just dont like how they sound, feel, or pretty much anything about them.

Your life sucks.

Okay - I have lived and I have learned. I am ready to rescind my accusation for now that stated that Line 6 sucks. Here's the deal...

After about a two week stint of anger and frustration, someone finally posted on the Line 6 site about my problem, which was that the head was shorting out. It was really simple, and someone with more exp. with half stacks would have known better, but nope - not me - I've always used combos, and until our band decided to heavy up on our sound/style, I thought I'd never need one.

So, anyway - it's simple - I was plugging in ONE SPEAKER CABLE, left from the head and into the left input of the cab. This is what I was shown AT THE STORE, and the store had it set up that way before I got there. What none of us knew, thanks to crappy documentation in the tiny maual for this amp, is that the head is intended to be connected to the cab IN STEREO ONLY - in other words - by only using the single connection, the amp is actually 4 ohms, not 8, which I guess is bad.

The rep didn't know it because it's not mentioned in the manual AT ALL - in fact, there is no word in there of how to connect the head, anywhere!

NOW, I have a brand new rig - the store replaced the head and cab for me, and in all honesty, I really love the sound of this thing and it has PLENTY of power for me - It actually seems that I could play loud enough to drown out the rest of the band by a lot, though I haven't tried it. I only need to play at 4.5 volume and it blends perfectly with whole sound.

All this being said, it's been a hassle, but it was solved without too much difficulty, by a tech and a member of the LIne 6 forum, in a relatively short time.

I have also always been a fan of vintage - obviously, MOST things, not just guitar gear, but MOST THINGS OVERALL, were built better before our entire existence became molded plastic and computer chips. I bought this half stack with a need for one that exceeded my budget - I really didn't have the money to buy it at all, and wouldn't have any time soon. So, I went with a product that typifies the words cheap and modern. I have to say that it does EXACTLY what I wanted a half stack to do, and it was VERY affordable after my trades, so in that, I'm happy.

To those of you out there that actually hate the sound, I guess you must have GOLDEN EARS - this thing is not only infinitely tweakable, but I played it side by side with my friend's Mesa halfstack, and it sounded JUST AS GOOD. Different, yes, but fine nevertheless, and that was my friend and his bandmates that said so - they were all very suprised...

After all, Line 6 has been working on this digital modelling for a long time - the whole purpose of it is to create a mirror image of classic sounds, from every type of amp/speaker combo known to man. You can't deny that they have made tremendous strides in the quality of the sounds, and even people on the Line 6 site seem to agree that the Line 6 sounds are ALL very similar, from the bargain stuff all the way to the high end VETTA II stuff.

Oh well, more than enough said. If it dies, I'm going back to the tried and true - probably a Marshall tube head + cab, with a Boss Metal Zone and a Bad Horsie Wah. It's all I would really need. I just have to sell one of my kids into salvery to afford it...

Boss Metalzone?
Why even bother buying a tube amp, then? Seriously. Get a crate half stack and it will sound equally as crappy with that boss metalzone, but save you a lot of money.

Whatever - it's amazing that there are so many tone snobs out there - you know what? Thanks for your input. Please send me a personal message that details your rig, or your dream rig, so I can get that "cool" tone that you have. Then I'll be higher up on the fucking food chain, too, like you seem to think you are. Dick.

You are the dumbass that didn't hook your own amp up right, blew it the fuck up, and then went out in public trashing the company that made it.

Who's the dick?

Stupid fuck.

hahaha...somebodygot owned

but honestly, as much as the metal zone pedals can suck, i've gotten some pretty good sounds out of them as long as they have a good tube power section pushing the distortion...if you're going for some industrial-ish, chainsaw sounding distortion, the metal zone will give you what you're looking for

I haven't had any experience with a line 6 amp at all, and i have been looking at getting the Line 6 Flextone III 2x12 combo for the last couple of weeks.

I've heard good things, but does anybody know anything about this one that can help me in deciding weither or not to buy it?

soapbox

Read the thread and I understand where everyone is coming from, but does it bother anyone who plays one that there's a good chance in a decade that it'll just get thrown in the trash? Something goes wrong with something on the board and the only way to fix it is a new board and well it costs as much as the replacement so just get a new amp. I have a few friends that play a Line 6 and I definitely understand why they use them, they're a good value and have a lot of options which seems to help them in the writing process and they're loud enough to gig with. But I look at my Sound City, or my Ampeg Gemini II and think that everything in it can be repaired and I could will them to my grandkids if I wanted to and there's something amazing about that. Sure I had to have them recapped, and yes good tubes aren't cheap, but they'll certainly never end up by the curb. Just my rant, not trying to offend at all.

Ha - I would've hooked it up right if they told me to in the manual, or even at the store - rotten fart.

Someday, I will be able to afford much nicer stuff, then I will get things that I can will to others instead of tossing out.
