Hi,

I'm looking for information about companies that offer a studio package that can be tailored to fit your room. This would include acoustical treatments, music style, harware and software for example. Basically, are there any companies that one could go to and say "I want a home studio, here is my $5000" and they would get everything they need to make a CD?

Thanks for your help..

I don't know about this one. It would seem too good to be true. Alot of guys here (including myself) have spent way more than $5000, some way more on just equipment. Depending on the type of studio you wanted set up and soundproofing, dampers, etc. you may spend more than $5000 just on the room if you wanted to. Good luck and if there is a resource like this out there, be sure to let us know :D

Well, the money figure was just for example. What I wanted to know was if there exist a company that has already designed the studio and you pay x amount of dollars and that company tailors it to your room or space? Obviously, depending on what you want you could spend thousands of dollars, the money figure is not the issue, I'm just looking for something similar to this.

Thanks for taking the time to respond though..

It does seem like a good idea, especially considering the number of people who pop up on BBSs and newsgroups with, basically, "I don't know anything about anything, and I want a recording studio."

I guess an obstacle is that it's a lot easier to sell somebody $10,000 worth of stuff in $200-$800 chunks, than to get them to write a big check all at once. Even if they wind up in the same place in the end ....

There have been some packages that come somewhat close. Alesis used to sell a bundle which included an ADAT, a mixer and I think a couple little effects boxes. Obviously, there are a variety of "portastudio-esque" boxes that combine a mixer and recorder, and retailers often bundle these up with mics and headphones and stuff.

Beyond what SJ mentioned, there ARE companies that will do this for you - the only sad thing is that you left off two of the zeroes in the price tag... :=( Steve

I think Musicians Friend had Studio Packs that vary in prices. They come with recorders, cables etc... Then you can buy acoustic treatment kits and computer kits on top of that.
Check to see if the ystill offer them.

SoMm

You're not going to find a "package" made by one manufacturer, however you can buy an Auralex "Roominator" kit which is all the wall foam and plastic dispersers, and a Yamaha AW44xx digital mixer/multitrack and a microphone of your choosing and you're good to go.

look for sound engineers. People go to school to learn how to make the room sound a certain way. Granted they probably just got out of college and have no experiece in the field and will probably do a poor job...but if you get a good one....like the ones that design professional studios, your set. I know you can find one somewhere.

Are you talking about equipment or room treatment? The sales staff at any pro recording gear store will help you spec out a system. If you trust somebody else to tell you how to spend your money then give them a call. Sweetwater would probably be the most mainstream retailer capable of really putting together a good system for you. Companies like Mercenary Audio can do it also but like knightfly says "$$$". How much do you want to spend?

Otherwise tell us what you want to do and you will get plenty of opinions here.

Now THAT is an appropriately named musical item retailer :)

Thanks for the chuckle! Maybe I need some more coffee!
