and i did the whole search for a thread thing and got pretty much zero, which is why i reposted a question about them (the Phonic mixers).

They are complete crap.... a total waste of money....

id AT LEAST get a Behringer....if you can afford it , get a MACKIE......

yep, Phonic is a no-no

I fiddled with different phonic mixers and it all feels a bit breakable; very tiny buttons, from which you cannot see wether they're in or out, and the faders feel flimsy.

If you want a comparable mixer, your next options are:
-Behringer MX1804X
-Spirit Folio F1
-Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro

They all have inserts, 2 or more auxes, 6 mic pre amps and a couple (4 I think) of stereo channels.
The Spirit is the only one of them with 100 mm faders, but I hate the feel of Spirit faders, you could blow (with your mouth, not explosives! :) )them from their position, the Behringer's have a bit more resistance. And for the money, the MX1804X does feel pretty sturdy.
But, save up and go for the Mackie (around $400-600)...I dunno the USA prices. Here in Holland it's $670!!!

but dude, if you dont need pro results and just doing hobby home recording, that Phonic Mixer is alot for the money......Mackies and Spirits are nice, but if your wallet says Phonic or Behringer, they will do fine......

I agree 200%
don't let all the name brand naysayers disuade you...the thing won't blow up when you first plug it in. You should have seen all the Tapco 6000b mixers in use 30 years ago. Just rubbish, but they never broke...usually....and now they're *vintage* mackies!! ha!:D

I bought my son a little Phonic 12 channel mixer and an MXL v57 for Christmas. He's got my old Mac and he's doing digital recording with this setup. So far, everything is working fine. I don't think the Phonic is in the same league with a Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro, but he is learning how to record and enjoying the heck out of it. Hey--by the time hes 21, he might be able to get some really high end stuff for low prices. For now, he's making progress, producing music and having fun. Its a good place to start for those on a very tight budget. Once upon a time, I created a TV commercial on a Fostex X-15! So, anythings possible in my book.

You can always learn your craft on the cheap stuff and save in the meantime for higher quality gear.
