Sorry to put this here off topic....but, my reason for doing so is 3 fold:

1.) I knew you'd see it here.
2.) Wasn't sure how often you are in the Cave
3.) Thought someone else might be interested, rather than just doing a private message.

:)

Anyways, you mentioned in another thread that you think Moses Avalon is Steve Albini??

That is *very* interesting to me, as I am a big Albini fan...and I read a lot of his articles.

Also, I have read "Confessions" a couple times since I bought it a month or two ago, and I am a big fan of the book.

Definately seems like Steve from an aspect of "Lots of artists would be better off with an indie label..." and such....and, there are a few bad words here and there...he is pretty straightforward with stuff (like his bit on jews near the end)

But...hmm, I dunno man. It doesn't seem 100% steve to me...esp. talking about some of the projects he worked close to. And, he is also pretty sympathetic to major labels...

Were you serious about that? Maybe I will see if Steve's first gig was playing guitar on a record when he was 17 :)...like the book mentions.

Make no mistake, I think Albini's a genius - God knows, he changed the way I saw music for a long while - but I think it's interesting to compare his almost puritanical production work nowadays with the way he recorded Big Black (drum machines, loads of effects on guitars - especially on "Atomizer").

Also, I'm not over sure I'd like him if I actually met him - someone I know, who considers Albini a friend, admitted to me that he can be "a bit of a git" at times - especially when women are around.

i'm not sure I'd call Albini a "genius".

I just think he has an unorthodox view of music/industry in todays day.

In terms of his engineering chops - I think Blue Bear and others could do the same job he did - his work is more philisophical...and he certainly has thick skin...very much enjoys rock music, etc.

But, the word genius is just thrown around a lot. Hell, I think i could end up like Albini 10 years from now....in terms of the kind of projects he takes, and the kind of mindset he has about those projects...

certainly wouldn't consider myself a genius for it. the man is passionate about his work and is good at what he does. Nothing unattainable.

I really hope the "next generation" of engineers/producers/industry people turn out more like Albini. Of course there's a time and place for overproduction. heh. But, like that one Onion article Blue Bear posted...had never seen that one, that was a good one....

Like he says he gets a lot of satisfaction in doing the 200-500 dollar projects. I think a lot of people on this board feel the same way.

No clue if he is Avalon...it says he is an "ex-producer"....who knows.

Steve Albini = Moses Avalon

Interesting theory. Let's look a little closer. If you mix up the names you get:

Steve Albini = Bi Steal Vein
Moses Avalon = A No Love Mass

Coincidence? I think not.
