I plan on using sonar too, will this be possible d'you think?

Shouldnt be a problem as far as im considered, check with the suppliers before you buy :)

Ohh and should i put the sub up between the two NS10 copies?

totally not necessary

bass frequencies tend to not be very directional - they're often felt more than heard, so it's best to place the subwoofer in a spot that will give the room itself the truest low-end response, which is going to depend on the size of the room, acoustical treatment, etc. etc.

The room size is 7' x 8'(slightly smaller), and will have bass traps in the corners, broadband absorbers in first reflection points side and above, behind the speakers, and covering the back wall. I will be miing in 5.1 surround, so there are a lot more first reflection points, lol. Where would you suggest, or should i ask in the building forum?

they have really great head room and a great forward "British" presense.

Hey man, not to bust your chops or anything :D ... but that's really an amazing description that I hadn't really thought of.

Because we all know how "present" anything British is. Especially their mic pres. And to think that something designed in the US and mass-produced in China could have a presence so uniquely belonging to the Brits is, in my mind, pretty stunning.

.

Ohh, sorry to resurrect this thread, but... with the issue over using firewire and pci, would i be better getting to delta1010s and getting 8 cheap pres, such as the SM PRO AUDIO PR 8 E? The only reason i had decided on the firepod, was because i'd heard a lot of good things about the preamps. Would these be drastically worse? I think i'd prefer to get the firepod, but not if there are going to be problems, and if these are hugely different/worse.
cheers
panda.

Infact, what would you guys suggest for 8 budget pres into the delta 1010. Remember, i'm looking for 8 decent budget pres in one, and a 8 expensive pres separate. I've decided on the SPL Goldmike, and the RNP, for my more expensive pres, and when money allows I'll get a couple more. So what would you guys suggest for my 8 budget? Maybe £400?

The Studio Projects 828 has received some good press and mb reviews. It has Burr-Brown IC's, which reportedly help the sound quality. It seems to be available in the states for about $600.
If you want cheaper there seem to be a few real low budget ones like the Nady and the SMPro.

Well the focusrite octopre LE and the Studio projects SP828 both come in a little under your budget.

Not a recommendation because I haven't used either but perhaps a couple to look at?

Edit: Tascam do an 8 channel pre for £250 too:

Yeah I've seen the nady and smpro. How do you think these will do? I know there is a lot better out there, but would you suggest them as a start, then later i can sell them?

Having used SP, Tascam and Focusrite platinum pres (although not these specific units) I'd put them all firmly in the same camp, I doubt there's going to be any significant difference between them.

The Tascam's pretty cheap so they may have skimped a bit with the design, that's just speculation though based on the price.

If you have the capital you could get them all from Thommann and keep the one you like (they have a 30 day, no quibble return policy).

Other than that you'll just have to read up as much as possible on each unit and make your choice based on the most favourable user reviews.

Never thought of that... I'm such an idiot. I'll just save up for them all, keep the 1 i prefer, and send the others back. Thanks... My ears are really trained enough to tell the difference yet though :(, in college they just use the pres in the 02r96 and the control24s, and don't bothed with any outboard, and i only have a cheap mixer... hmmm, i'll probably not hear a difference and just keep the cheapest, then later on regret it. Anyway, i have nowhere near the money needed for even the SMPro yet, lol...
