Does anyone have one of the new Rode NTK? I found one today for $250.00. Of course the knowledgable salesman knew that it was a studio mic...... and thats all he knew about it. I was just wondering what the consensus was. The kit came with a power supply, a shockmount, and a carring case with foam.

What a ripoff, that's way too much money.
BTW, which store is it and what's their phone number?

Chris

Yea, you can get a lot better deal than that.

Give me that number, and I'll talk him down for ya. I'm good at that sort of thing.

I think the nub of their gist is that you should run(not walk) and get that mic for that money. :)

So what is the list for that mic? I thought that was a good deal, but, I have not researched the mic. So I was just wondering if anyone had it or had used it.

Hahaha. Sorry to break your guys's fun.

Make sure you find out if he has more for that price and start stocking up on them if its true.

But becareful about a scam here.

Danny

btw - i think they normally go for like 600-800.

BPM Music usually qiotes $389 on the NTK......

damn fine mic.......$250 is a steal...........

Really $389?? Wow i didnt expect it to be that low. I for some reason remember it being around $600. Maybe things have changed a bit? But either way 250 is an awesome deal.

They've been hanging out at about $500 for a while. GC was doing $400 for Labor Day. I think they are involved in a price war right now, so it's a good time to move. I can't tell you what I really paid for it, because I traded a used AKG Solidtube with a broken shock mount for mine. It is a very versatile colored mic with mild proximity that sounds surprisingly good on acoustic guitar as well. At $389, it's a no-brainer for a cheap main vocal mic. Just remember to let it warm up. When you touch it, and it feels like a warm body, it's ready. It's become one of my go-to vocal mics.-Richie

There was only one, but I am going back to grab it before its gone. How good are they? I have never used a rode mic before.

jblount- see above. Also do a search on NTK and I think you'll find that I am by no means alone in believing that this is a very useful mic. At $389, it's a no-brainer.-Richie

Im thinking about getting a used one but im not really sure if i need it. I dunno how much it would complement the mics i already have, but they sound like they are definately worth their money. What kind of characteristics do they have?

Danny

OK Darnold, the Rode NTK is a cardioid only tube mic with no bass rolloff, no pad. It comes with nothing other than a soft case, it's power supply, and a cable. It has relatively mild proximity effect as cardioids go, and it has mild but perceptable pleasing color which suits it well for main vocals and acoustic guitar.
It is a flattering mic, but gives up a little detail to do that. In other words, it does exactly what a tube mic is for. I think of it as doing what airbrushing does to a nude photo. The better looking she is, the less you need it.-Richie

I got mine with a ( fairly sorry ) shockmount for 499. Mine also came with a very elaborate hard case.. big as a suitcase. It's a very nice mic. Takes a while to get used to it - it's pretty hot...it's great for getting a vocal up front and big. Plenty quiet. I've been pleased with it so far. I'd have to hop on it quick for $250 ( if it's not a scam. )

OOOOOHHHH CRAP. Went back to the store. The guy working today said that it was $649. The dumbass last week looked at the wrong mic on his price list. I was pissed. I told him I should have it for the price that the other guy quoted, and he said that I didnt have it in writing so I couldnt. I am never going into that stupid store ever again. Well I might go back and kick that first guy in the nuts several times.
