I have an old Ampex 456 1 inch tape recorded on a 16 track machine. It has demos on it and I need to dump it to some format I can listen to. It does not need to be mastered. Does anyone have or know of a machine that can do this?

Oddly enough it is a 1" 16 track machine that you need ;)

Try sending an email to 'reelperson' at this bbs. You can search under the 'member' tab up top. He has a few analog decks and maybe can point you in the right direction or do a mixdown for you. You might try calling some local studios and see who has a compatible recorder.

You don't need to have it mastered but you will need to have it mixed down if you want to listen on a regular CD.

Thanks for the tip. I have tried several local studios and they are all digital for the most part. I'm still hunting.

I looked but did not see reelperson listed. I checked realperson also but no luck. Are you sure thats the full name?

I have a 1" 16 track machine. I'd be glad to try and dump to digital for you. Send me an email offline.

Kevin.

Kevin will probably hook you up. The member is 'A Reel Person' and there is also the Analog forum at the bottom of the list if you need any more help.
