Am I the ONLY one?????

Lately, the big turn-off for me are the lyrics. They're mostly what you would expect from a 15-year-old. You'd figure that guys more than twice that age would have more to say. They sure did before.

But hey... it's workin' for 'em. Who am I to criticize? I wish I could do what they're doing.

This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. I don't question they're good musicians. I don't question they're good singers. Like it or not Chad Kroger IS a good singer. I don't even question that they used to be "great". My problem is the lyrics, and copying the same song structure over and over now. I just don't understand why they can't expand on the success they've had. I personally never liked Nickelback but until I heard Figure you out, Animal, and Photograph, I thought they were decent songwriters. I'm sorry but those songs will never be considered lyrically great. They're just horrible. Like Chris said, it's something a 15 year old would write.

I'd have to disagree about Photograph. The lyric is very well-written as is the song. I'm not a huge Nickelback fan but I think people give them way too much shit just because they aren't groundbreakingly innovative.

Well ...

Nickelback has found their formula. Same thing with Coldplay and other bands ... there are so many that do this. They found something that worked, and I'm sure there's pressure from the label to put similar stuff out so they get the same results. I just recently watched a new Nickelback single on t.v., and the chorus is something like, "Sow me what it's like (deh deh deh deh deh dun dun)" sorry I don't know the "dun dun" lyrics, but my roommate caught it and went, "it sounds like that part on their other song where he says, 'lookin' at the bottom of every bottle.'" And he was right. And that's their NEWEST song, let alone those other two that had similar chords but a slight change in melody.

I know a bunch will argue and say, "well hey, at least their ripping off of themselves." But, listeners WILL catch on eventually, and they'll just have to either take the leap of faith and experiment with something new, or forget it altogether and become a joke.

I think someone should write a song with the chords, Bm G A and see if you can make something up ... I bet it'll be their next single. Hell, way before that comparison was made, I was drunk about 2 years ago off my ass and was just recording some dumb shit to make my friend laugh at when I showed him ... so I did that progression from "This is how you remind me ..." and sang that song that went, "at the bottom of every bottle" and it fit on accident ... funny now I see that comparison and I was right ... it's so sad.

They're the same song

I'll always reserve a "special spot" for nickelback in my heart. It was their song Someday that I first learned drums to; in a sense, led me to drumming. As a "kinda" Nickelback fan, I can agree with ya'll, some of their songs are written simply. But I enjoy hearing a decent song that isn't vauge (e.g. Mars Volta = makes no sense). i respect them because, when interviewed, they simply stated, they're here for the music. They aren't all tatooed and pierced, trying to sell an image. Photograph, is the only exception I know of as far a song complexity. They depict and story, and an imaginable one too. You go back to Rock's roots and you'll see simplicity was quite immenent in lyrics. Todays rock likes to be vauge, repetitive, and mostly pointless (my girlfriend left me, so now I hate her).
Keep in mind I'm not a big Nickelback fan....I have seen them live though! ;)
They also do another thing MANY MANY MANY newer rock bands can't......they can actually deliver live. What you hear on their album, is pretty much what you hear live.

blahhhh....I must be awfully bored to defend a band I don't really care about! :D
