Nickelback.....decent band that has been copied time and time again.

obviously a good point the band is very talented ...

but the thread is about kroegers songs having no depth or content and being clique when they do...

ps most of the bands that sound just like them because they got a chad kroeger in their recording chain! lol!

Though I think most Nickelback songs suck......be open minded and think for a second.....if someone else was singing their song and it wasnt as polished...and it didnt sound like them......you would PROBABLY say ...hey ....thats a catchy song. But since hating bands has almost become as popular as loving bands...you just jump on the hating bandwagon....which is as bad as people who jump on the bandwagon of loving a band.

Nickelback.....decent band that has been copied time and time again.

*This post shouldnt offend anyone...sorry if it does!

You missed my point totally. I never said their songs were not catchy, I said they were'nt well written. The words are childlike. You say Nickelback............decent band that has been copied time and time again,
I say Nickelback.....a band that's copied THEMSELVES time and time again.

is this the nickelback fan site...?

im amazed at this thread. i entered thinking id get some good discussion on songwriting but instead i got a rip on artists site. ill search for something real this time...

I support almost anything that is rock these days. Considering all the lameass wanna be punk bands out there are basically old 80's glam fag rock. Nickelback is decent. But, not much variety. I would much rather listen to Nickelback then Green Day, they are a joke, or any form of that non music Hip hop crap. But, that's just me. Everyone has their deal.

d00ds, turn off your radios.

I mean, I don't have to hate Nickelback, because I've never HEARD Nickelback. I am spending today grooving along to the new Neko Case album, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood (pocket review - less accessible than Blacklisted, and I'm not sure yet whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's clearly a continuation of the direction she's been heading all along. And I think Blacklisted is the best album I've heard from the last five years, so go figure). I'm also digging Songlines, by the Derek Trucks Band, which was recorded at the producer's home(!), and oozes with amazing guitar and percussion sounds.

Some years ago, I realized that there is more great music in the world than I'll ever have time to hear. I buy slightly more albums than I really listen to properly already. Why in Gawd's name would I waste my precious time listening to dreadful pop?

Does anybody remember the link where they laid two Nickelback songs on top of each other? I can't remember which two it was, but they were in the same key, same tempo, and all the sections lined up EXACTLY the same. It was pathetic.

Anyone know the link?

i thought it was possible to do that with all their songs.

No Need to apologize, nickelback sucks hardcore. No Ill back up my opinion...

The music is very generic, and not well thought out, the hooks are sub par for a group being pushed as hard as they are, (Even song sI hate get stuck in my head, thats a good hook, even if I hate it, I dont htink Ive ever had a nickelback song stuck in my head... ever)

The vocals, eh. he sings every song the same, no dynamics, small octave range

Lyrical content, is he TRYING to sound like a middleschool kid wich girlk problems? Honestly, you can bitch about your..... bitch, but for christ sake do it creativley, dont whine. whineing is for pussys.

and this is a comment from my girlfriend... he is THE ugliest guy in rock bands now (hes uglier than the singer for the scorpions)

I'm glad Im not alone here in hating them, because they cant write, and they just plain suck. its that simple

Am I the only one that thinks Chad Kroger, and Nickelback are the worst songwriters ever? I'm not trying to offend Nickelback fans, honestly I enjoy the music. The words......... a seventh grader could write more emotional lyrics. And don't even get me started with thier new song Animal. How do they continue to keep having hits? I'll admit the hook is all there, but the words? Come on. It makes me feel like the 80's are coming back!

Disclaimer: Sorry if I offended any Nickelback fans in this post. I just get upset when a band releases the same song twice (Figure You Out and Animal) It doesn't mean they're a bad band..............I just don't see how people are connecting to thier songs, other than the music. This is ONLY my opinion.

I got two words for you, man... "Afternoon Delight". :D

A truly WRETCHED, horrible song, appalling production, and every one of us will be humming it all afternoon now.

ARG!!! now you have THAT horrible song stuck in my head, at least its not Nickelback :D

Hating on bands isn't cool. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you need to go bashing them on some message board.

I love Nickelback. Their lyrics are just fine the way they are, why do you wanna turn them into an emo band?

I laugh at how amaturish these posts are. No one has actually given a musical-related reason as to WHY they're not good.

If you don't like them, don't listen to them. Simple as that.

I liked them up to and including Silver Side Up. Lately, they seem to have run out of ideas, so are re-hashing old ones, (hey, it worked for AC/DC for the past 20 years... and I love AC/DC), or coming up with bad ones. They're good solid musicians; they have a good sound; they can sing, and they have a good sense of melody and harmony. Lately, the big turn-off for me are the lyrics. They're mostly what you would expect from a 15-year-old. You'd figure that guys more than twice that age would have more to say. They sure did before.

But hey... it's workin' for 'em. Who am I to criticize? I wish I could do what they're doing.

Exactly, they are doing what they want to do. I'm not saying they are a good, great, or def. not amazing band. But they look like they have fun doing what they're doing. And lets face it...they are MUCH better at it than anyone on this forum. And if anyone says they are better than them, I would LOVE to hear. Maybe you are...but heres what I've learned:

Even if you are the best musician in the world...It's not enough to be the best...you have to WORK YOUR ASS OFF to let people know you are the best and promote like crazy.

The way I see it is that half the shitty bands on the radio have worked their asses off to get where they are while the incredible musicians just didn't want to put in the time.

Not true in all cases...but I'm willing to bet that it is in Nickelback's case.

The worst songwriters are the songwriters who put other songwriters down instead of writing a song about it. :D

Funny, though.... the two songs pitched around in this thread are Photograph and Animal. Def Leppard had songs by those titles too. Just an observation...

Chris

hahahah good call. I think Def Leppard are coming out with another new album...

I never got them. Even that new song (haven't even heard the whole thing). It goes something like "look at this photograph, every time i see it it makes me laugh". For me, the lyrics would call for a soft vocal, and that guy's voice seems so harsh and processed for that. It's just one of those things; they just rub me the wrong way. Now i'll read the replies from the beginning (i wanted to give my opinion before reading replies) and see what everyone else thinks.

I understand you're point about the harsh vocals. I don't believe they are harsh....I believe they are just the way he sings. VERY strong voice into the microphone, good projection. I DO agree with the over processed. ESPECIALLY is you listen in headphones. i have the song photograph on my ipod, I listened to it one night when i was going to bed....my head felt like it was spinning from the phaser/flanger effect they have on the vocals during the intro.

That's just a rediculous statement. Look at Eminem. He's made a living putting other songwriters down!

Chris you were right about AC/DC. They were the Nickleback of their time! Cheesy lyrics with the same musical structure. Only difference is..........I like AC/DC!!!!!
