Maddonna is amazingly bad... for someone who has made it as far as she has, remember that performance on MTV back in like 95 when she and her dancers were all dressed in Victorian era clothes. That was about the worst singing I have ever heard outside of those bad american idle outtakes.
Garth Brooks can't sing either, pass it on.

And as for Dylan, it may not be easy to listen to, but the effect can be more intense than anyone else. A recent example is High Water (For Charlie Patton)... saw him play this live in Jackson Hole a couple years ago and it was chilling.

I never thought about Nickelback long enough to consider this question and I think I'll continue with that.

photograph is probably the worst song I've ever heard...

God that song is AWEFUL. Its such a cliche sound too... I cant RACE to the stereo fast enough to change it. I've never even heard the song the whole way through..

I have to be 100% honest though. I saw them play about 2 years before they really made it, and they had a great stage presence, and their vocals, and harmoneys and tone were all spot on. The guy was playing a friggen tele the whole show and it sounded so good. Was one of the best concerts I have ever been to.

Does anybody remember the link where they laid two Nickelback songs on top of each other? I can't remember which two it was, but they were in the same key, same tempo, and all the sections lined up EXACTLY the same. It was pathetic.

Anyone know the link?

I like Photograph - nice tune to listen to on the way to work. I like te overall sound on that recording - nice acoustic guitar. The lyrics are simple but interesting.

Yeah, they (he) suck. Which is exactly why they (he) are rich and famous (emphasis on rich)

Music today in general is pretty bad. Most of it is overproduced nonsense. Its all made to be tied into a lifestyle obssesion of materialism and celebrity.

There are alot of talented people out there, but my guess is that we will most likely not here them on the radio or otherwise. Mostly because MTV is airing no music, the radio is to busy playing the same 7 songs over and over with plenty of time for commercials, and TV is making future pop stars. In my opinion American Idol and things of that nature are a crime.

Just because someone can sing does not make them an artist, just like if someone has a guitar does not make them a musician. I respect people as artists a whole lot more when they write, play and sing there own material. It makes music real, which is something I have a hard time finding nowadays, and I'm only 22. I hope there are still a few people out there whom agree with me.

Wow! I haven't logged on in forever!

Are you selling albums? Always glad to support a fellow Albertan! How did you end up in WI? Family....job? Where are you from in AB? Cool web site - I'm at work right now but I'll try to listen to your tunes tonight....

I'm not actually selling an album yet, but when we finish it up, I'll probably post it on the site and advertise it here.
My Dad's a doctor, so we moved here for economic reasons.

Im an old-school Nickelback fan. I havent really liked their stuff as much since "Silver Side Up" came out.

Check out some of their old stuff like "Breathe" and "Leader of Men"

About all the CRAP on the radio

I think the major labels are putting out what teens/young adults (the biggest buyers of music) think is COOL. Quite frankly, I think most of it sucks and lacks depth or artistry. But money rules the industry. So if it's selling, its gonna be duplicated in one form or another.

Heck, look at all the crap on the TV. Have we seen enough friggin crime dramas yet? Calgon! Take me awaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy....

Thank god for Indies! That's all I have to say about THAT!.

:D

yeah you're right wem! It's rare when a band stands out on it's own. You can usually go........."that band sounds like.........." But that's not what I was talking about with Nickelback. They're making a fortune releasing new songs that sound and are structured in the exact same way as THEIR OLD SONGS! I guess as a writer, you revert back to what you know, or what's comfortable. I steer as far away from that as I can. I guess that's why Chad Kroger is raking it in, and I'm in a forum ranting about it!!!!

before i bash i will say that i listen to the song picture and leader of men a lot...

but...

i hate with a passion chad kroegers ethics and purity in music, he is a perfect example of why the music industry is bad(mmmkay?)

every band he produces sounds like nickel back has no one else noticed this??
it has to mean that he is defining the way they sound which is not what a producer does...

i would like to add that there are good producers like rick rubin that actually focus on what the band is good on and helping them see this...

you cant pick out a band that he produced... (unless its because it s usually popular and good (rare combination)

but the fact is that nickelback is too catchy to not indulge in sometimes... like pancakes....

ONLY one... ?!?

Nah, dude, you're not the only one. But is this not what we all aspire to? When people ask me if I watch reality tv, I tell 'em no, my life IS reality, what the f**k do I need reality tv for? My reality is, I've spent the better part of the musical portion of my life letting my talent & abilities stagnate to the point that I know I won't ever be able to make a living from my (limited) skills, but that doesn't stop me from trying. I just listened to the link where the Nickelback songs are transposed on top of each other, & although the effect is hilarious for what it proves about getting lazy when you get famous, it's also pitiful, to me, that such obviously talented, driven musicians have gotten so full of themselves that they've decided to cheat not only themselves, but me as well by not stretching themselves to create & play outside of their chosen "formulat" (formula + format= formulat!). I would love to hear what they would sound like playing a country song, or even a jazz-type tune. It doesn't have to be perfect, or complicated, but at least TRY. I prefer the Southern Blues-rock style of music, a la Skynyrd, Bad Co., Allmans, etc., but I'm also a big fan of classic country such as Willie, Waylon, Conway, George, Hank Sr. & Jr., etc. I also don't want to forget the blues, which country & rock are descended from. I've written rock songs, country songs, ballads, smokin' blues-based songs, etc., but the point is that I'm trying to keep myself fresh by NOT staying in just one style. ZZ Top is ultimately cool, & I love their music, but they stay within a particular formula in their writing, which I'm guessing is why the time period between albums seems to be getting longer & longer. I mean, there's just so many ways you can write the type of songs they write, & stay fresh. I'm sure age is also a factor. This brings me back around (finally!) to my point, which is: Nickelback have chosen rock as their genre, & within that genre is a formula for success. Songs are 3-4 minutes in length; they tend to deal with certain subject matter (love, sex, lust, alcohol/drug use/abuse, etc.); the songs are written within certain tempos & chord progressions. I'm sure it's a little more complicated than this, but this seems to me to be the basics of it all. American Idol seems to me to be a contradiction of what the music business is all about. The contestants all seem to have to be able sing in multiple styles/genres of music, but I don't hear Nickelback singing country or R&B tunes... Just my opinion, crap as it is...

I like the dudes voice. The songs are catchy... But your right.
The songwriting sucks. Gives me hope that someday my songs will be worth something.

I know exactly what you mean about the production thing! I heard that song that goes "This is not for real, afraid to feel ... just hit the floor, don't ask for more ... I'm wasting my time, I'm wasting my time." And I would have sworn it was Nickelback. It sounded exactly like them. It turns out it was Default. It was even funnier when I found out that the Nickelback guy produced them.

Pathetic .. just pathetic

that is exactly the song that popped in my head as i wrote that too...

has anyone noticed that if you put a guy with a country accent behind the mic on photograph, big rock star song or most of the other ones on the new cd, it would fit perfectly in to a modern (pop) country playlist at any major radio station! lol

Though I think most Nickelback songs suck......be open minded and think for a second.....if someone else was singing their song and it wasnt as polished...and it didnt sound like them......you would PROBABLY say ...hey ....thats a catchy song. But since hating bands has almost become as popular as loving bands...you just jump on the hating bandwagon....which is as bad as people who jump on the bandwagon of loving a band.

Nickelback.....decent band that has been copied time and time again.
