alternate LFO techniques?

My question arises due to one of the many limitations of my synths. Forgive my terminology errors, i'm no expert. My LFOs aren't syncable, and have low resolution, so i'd like to know other ways of applying an amplitude LFO that can be set at any speed, or even better, could be programmed to rhythmically silence (is it called gating?) the sound it is being applied to. I'm recording with my pc, so suggestions involving plug-ins will be the most helpful. Thanks a bunch!

i'd agree with regebro, but what synth are we talking about??

My synth (synths was a typo) is a technics wsa1, but i think that i may have phrased my question wrong. I don't think there is any way to externally modulate sounds within my synth since there aren't any cv inputs or anything. I am simply looking for ways to apply amplitude modulation to a recorded track and, if possible, be able to program the modulation pattern. I suppose i could just draw out a volume curve, but i thought there might be slicker ways of going about this.

Yes there is. See above. :)

A "sidechain" is a way to control the compression of a compressor with an external sound. Since compression really is amplitude modulation, it might be one possible solution.

Another solution is to buy a Clavia Micro Modular, where you can create a control signal with a sequencer and use it to control the amplification of an external signal.
