Along the lines of the cord length debate

I was going to buy a new, high quality Y-cable to mix down from my board to my computer's soundcard. I could reach my computer with a 6-footer from where I normally setup but was thinking of getting a 20-footer so I could wheel my setup into my room. Would this make a big difference? I mean, if I was getting by with a 6 foot Hosa cable before, and switched to a 20 foot Carver cable...?
 
Thanks regebro, but did you mean there wouldn't be much difference between a 6ft cheap cord and a 20ft good one, or that there wouldn't be much difference between those lengths in comparable quality cable.

I'm slowly replacing all my Hosas because I'm @#$%ing sick of something going out and having to wiggle a dozen plugs to find the bad cord. As soon as I replace one another goes bad because I breathed on it. Half the time they're bad right out of the package.

Both, really.

The problem with cheap cords is, as you indicate, the quality. You have to get pretty long lengths for them to actually influence the sound.

And now I'm gonna get flamed again, but I don't care.
Last time I said this somebody claimed I was totally completely und utterly wrong, and put up a link where you could calculate the influence of cables on sound, and it promptly showed you needed like 50 or 100 feet before even bad cable would make even a theoretical impact.

Buy cable that lasts. It's cheaper. Otherwise, don't buy the hype.

(I use cables of a brand called "Kablage" which is Swedish for "cabling". I like it, becuase it has warning-labels on the packaging:
- Playing loud with these cables can damage your ears.
- Sports shrink your brain. )
 
Thanks again, regebro. I'm going to start a survey over on the other equipment forum on what cables people use, why, and where to get it.
