It was me who said they sound like shit.. and I'm sticking to that opinion. However, what is really important is how they sound to you and nobody else. I, just as anyone else, could always be wrong, or we could have different opinions what is a good sound. Chances are big we do. Try them out, if you like it, good for you. Also,the word shit is in comparison with microphones like SM81 for overheads, and while it's maybe a bit strong word to use, I do feel that overheads are so important that you should use the best mics you can get hold of there. IIRC you did had perfectly good mics for the rest of the setup.
Just trying to give my honest opinion, and not out to offend anybody.
Actually, you don't have to go far up in price to beat the SC-1, I would say the Behringer ECM8000 does a better job as overheads, and they're even cheaper than the SC-1. They're omni though, so their usability and sound will depend on the room. Nice flat response, a bit selfnoise but for drums that don't matter.
