Add inputs to VF-160?

I'd like to add two more inputs to my VF-160. I know this can be done with the Fostex VC-8 plus a mixer, or with the the Fostex VM88 digital 8-channel mixer, but I wonder if there's an easier / cheaper way?

I believe an ADAT mixer would work, but as to how much simpler than the other methods this is I can't say.

Are you using the S/PDIF inputs on the VF?

Do any of your sources have S/PDIF outputs?

For $200 the Behringer ADA8000 will give you 8 more line level or mic level inputs with XLR&Phantom and 8 line outs. I have two of them and the preamps are much better than those in my VM-88 and all the analog connections are of balanced type.
