ADAT/Edit Software

I am looking into the ADAT/Edit for the mac. I want to know if I can get more than 8 tracks into the editing software. I know that you can only record 8 tracks at a time, but can you do 2 passes with 8 tracks then 2 tracks, or do I have to mixdown the 8, put it on 2 tracks, then bring in the other 2?

you can only have a total of 8 tracks in the adat edit software at a time. the reason is, the logic software is only a demo. you could get something like n track. it is pretty cheap and i know alot of people on this forum use it. ( i dont btw)
 
im a novice

question...i want to get the adat/edit software (ADAT Edit v1.0)...all i have is a basic pc with a run of the mill sound card (only one input)...what im looking to do is take 2 adats that are hooked together (16 tracks) and transfer them to my pc so i can import them into vegas audio...can all 16 tracks be transferred at once (so that all wave files wind up being in perfect synch with each other?...or can only 8 be done at a time? if only 8 can be done at a time, when you go to transfer the second 8, will they be transferred in such a way that they are automatically lined up with the first 8, or do you have to line up the second eight manually by dragging them and finding the right spot in vegas? also do you need any special sound cards that allow the transfer...or is that part of the software? HELP PLEASE!!! i dont want to blow money on something and then find out i cant use it with my existing pc! THANKS!!!
 
you need some sort of digital connection (lightpipe) to transfer 8 tracks at a time and keep them all in sync. if all you have is a regular computer sound card ( ie soundblaster, which i strongly recomend NOT using) you will have to transfer things two tracks at a time, then line them all up manually. this will be a real pain in the arse. the cheapest card is the alesis adat edit card. it comes with the adat edit software and the adat connect software. the adat connect is what you use to transfer tracks in and out of the computer up to 8 tracks at a time. i use vegas audio as well. you can have more than one machine hooked up to one card. you just have to transfer 8 tracks in one pass, go to your "hardware" menu, and switch machines and do it again. i have 3 machines on the same card and have done quite a bit of transfering. you can also use this card and an adat to record audio directly into your pc. you do not have to record on the adat first.

I'm selling my ADAT/Edit PCR card, software (adat/edit 2.1 and adat/connect) and updated drivers.
The card has 8 in and 8 out (tos-link) and adat sync (in and out)
the price may be €300 (or $300) directly at your home, wherever you are.
 
About the Adat?Edit

I used the Adat/Edit card for about a year. The software was actually Logic's Micrologic which was NOT a demo. It was a beginner package. It had basic eq functions, reverb & delay. It also had acceptable editing features on a newbie level. I was able to use 12 tracks of audio. If interested, it's for sale for $150.00.

As long as you use the same start and end times for both 8 track transfers, everything will be in sync. Do it all the time importing tracks to Nuendo for mixing. I keep one adat connected and just transfer 8, change tapes & transfer 8 more, change tapes..........
 
I would look at possibly a MOTU product with ADAT Lightpipe I/O to accomplish transfers to and from ADAT's. The Alesis card isn't very reliable at transfering.

By the way Rocknwolf, that price you are asking is about what the card and software would cost NEW in the US.

I've had the ADAT card and software (two of them). Didn't like it one bit. It never did what they advertised. I went to the MOTU 2408 mkII. No more problems. YMMV.
