After trying to mix the public mix tracks on a micro hifi, i have come to the conclusion thats its not all my fault that mixes dont translate well :)
I have upto £250 to spend on some monitors, any idea's?
i record mostly rock, indie, post hardcore if that matters.
thanks in advance :)

The KRK RP-5's are the ones I settled on after a long search. They are sheilded so you can use them in close proximity to a computer monitor and sound just great. I was using similar gear and getting less-than-perfect results, but since buying these my mixes translate well on every system I play them.

I got mine here but I'm not sure they will ship internationally...

Perhaps a little cheap

I was mixing on my hifi speakers up to about a month ago....Perhaps a little budget for you but I bought a pair of Bi-Amped M-Audio Studiophile BX5A monitors the other week for £130 brand new, although I hear they go for as much as 200 quid in some places. Although there is mixed opinion on these, I don't really have any experience mixing on others, but they sound fantastic to me :-)

I see that Sound Control are selling Tannoy Actives for about £200 per pair, if I remember correctly...

I have a pair and have no complaints... other than the fact that I paid about £350 for my pair when I bought them.

thanks for you replies, so new ive got these as options:
KRK Kokit 5 - £240 for the pair (turnkey)
Alesis Monitor One Active Mk2 - £220 pair (dv247)
M-Audio Studiophile BX5 - £175 pair (turnkey)
TANNOY Reveal Actives - £200 pair (sound control)
Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 Active Monitors - £200 pair (turnkey)

so which should i choose? it would be extra helpful if you could explain why one is better than another :)

I think most people around here would advise you to do a comparison test. Go to a local store and decide which ones you like the best. Remember, they're not supposed to sound 'good'. They're supposed to sound 'true'.

It's all down to personal taste, really. take a few CDs you know well and if you hear something on them you didn't hear before, you can safely say that they are a decent pair of monitors.

In saying that, there might not be a great deal of discernable difference at this price level.

okay, that seems fair enough. thanks for all your help :)
