Bring Back Transfat!
I had it all figured out....I would go out and play the $300 Washburn, Ibanez and Takamine at the local shops and come home with a real guitar! :p

Well crap! The one I had the biggest hopes for was the Tak EG340C. The least attractive of the three, I figured it would make the most beautiful sound. Talk about a dead, hollow loser! The other two didn't really sound much different. No presence or projection. Just more of the same cheap bargain models like all I've ever been able to afford.

Then I spotted this big red thing without a price tag. Takamine EG523SC. Hmm, never heard of it. Must be really expensive. Strummed a D with my fingernail and 'bout fell off the stool! What a gorgeous, crystal clear ring!

Every note and chord I hit rang out with clarity and resonance. Okay, basically the sweetest sounding acoustic I've ever held. So I shuffle up to the counter and ask the guy what these go for. He pulls out a book and scribbles some figures and turns the sheet around so I can see it. $690 :(
Well that just figures! I'm not that good of guitar player, but I know what sounds good and what doesn't. I have no business spending that kinda bread on a guitar. So I jump back in my car thinking, "This sucks! I thought $300 would at least get me to the door" :(

Last night I start crying to my wife (after a few drinks) that I played the guitar today that I'll never be able to own. I told her it was big and red and beautiful. I told her it was called an EG523SC and that it was only $690. She got that look on her face and told me to get lost!

Two hours later I'm sitting at my computer with my drink, playing all the saddest songs I know, when she hollers at me from her computer room. "Hey, ya big whiner....you say that thing's an EG523SC?" I whimper back at her, "Yeah...like you really care!". She's obviously trying to gring salt into the wound.

She says "Come check this out". On the ebay screen she's lookin' at a new '523 with a buy-it-now price of $349!!! She says "you gonna stop playing all that "whoa is me" music if do this?"

Yippeee!! :D ;) :)

E Bay has some gems up for offer alright. Half my stomp boxes came from on line auctions. Just be sure to check the sellers feedback!!

Good find but a word of caution. The nature of the beast says that the ebay guitar will not sound the same as the shop one. Should still sound good though. Hope it works out OK for you..

DUDE........... for $700 you can do waaaaaaaay better than a Tak! Check seagull... low end Martins...... tacoma........etc.

Yeah I got a $1200 Tacoma DR-20E off eBay for $325 BIN. Best eBay purchase ever, and possibly my favorite acoustic that I've played under $2000.

different idividual guitars

of the same model can sound different

if you can't play it before you buy it

make sure you can return it for a refund

You're forgetting that's over $100 over what he couldn't even spend in the first place. For that cost he's getting a great deal.

I honestly wouldn't see a huge difference between a €700 Takamine and a €700 Martin. I love both brands.

not a big fan of the Taks..... IMHO they dont age well(sound better over time).... they are consistent, and sound fine plugged in. If I was going to buy a budgett asian made acoustic, I would focus on Ibaneaz and Alvarez.

No doubt Taks are a gigging guitarists guitar.

Don't be too sure that the Tak on ebay will sound exactly like the one you played at the store.
