You know the rule Henry. Nothing smaller than the elbow goes in the ear!!!

Cheers for that. I'll let you know how we go.

I was trying to demonstrate that to a kid once and put a spoon handle up to my ear as a bad example and the kid hit it into my ear and made me bleed all over. It did nothing for my itchy brain.

Yehp. I'll be sending my final mixes tomorrow. :)
He sent a short demo which sounds very promising.
Cheers Henry.

Nice song - busy melody to spring from a simple arrangement.
Quiet is fine - mastering'll address that in a good way.
Well done!
Wallet of change - that's funny - cool!

Songs have been sent for mastering.

Not sure if they'll be posted here for streaming or not, that's up to the songwriter, but either way I'll let everyone know.

Very nice!

I listened to Longshot... everything sits nice in the mix. The vocals are intimate and well performed. The acoustic sounds beautiful. Nice work!

OK Paul ..... give a run down of the microphones used on what and the preamps in the recording chain.

Sounds swell to me!

Sounds swell to me! Very professional. The soft padding vocals are great when they come in on the 2nd chorus... Just the perfect volume to intrigue.

With this kind of open, honest music, I don't think you need to, or would want to, sound any more "produced".

And to the reviewer who felt the singer was "holding back": Sometimes, less is more. Cheers, Ander

"she's got a room in her heart that she let's me rent sometimes." love that lyric, man. Good sounding stuff!

Thanks for the replies.
Just to clear up, the original comment about the vocals holding back was tip top in my opinion (and in hindsight).

What you're hearing now is a re recorded version done after that original post.

Henry; we used the new ribbon on vocals. The reslo with the transformer from xaudia.
I had an sm7b up there as well just incase high end was lacking but it didn't really get used in the end.
Guitar was the same preamps with the two oktava mk219s.
All done in a bedroom, no room treatment and hifi speakers up until the final mixing stages. :D

Preamps were the built ins on a presonus firestudio mobile believe it or not! Couldn't be happier with that wee yoke.

Masters are back now and everythings cool, so we're just waiting for artwork and then it'll be launched.

Might get launched out the window, but launched all the same. :)

www.petegardiner.co.uk should be on the up soon. If anyone cares that much there's a mailing list holding page there now, so you can out your name down for news.

HA! See ... A fine example and testimony for the fact that it's truly the person at the helm and not the ship or the weather.

Great job Paul.

Liking that Reslo!

None yet.
Having some hard copies printed, hopefully tonight/tomorrow and releasing the single for free download on wednesday.
Wednesday following sees the CD released. £4 I think he's looking.

*Edit,
Got a real nice email from Stewart Tavener there complimenting the final product.
Can't remember if I plugged him or not, but he's the guy who made up the transformer for me @ xaudia.com
Couldn't be happier with it.

Oops, that's right.
It was 30/50 ohm when I bought it.
He wound a new transformer for 250 ohm i think?

I'll be going back if I ever buy another.
