At 1:05 or so another part takes the lead. Sort of violin sounding. Was that synth or ebow?
that was a Roland XV 20-20 patch.. The ebow overlaps the start of it though..
The main ebow parts are 0:26 - 1:05, and then again from 1:22 until 2:02..
I think an EBow would work much better with a real amp.. I used the Pod Pro through the Blue max compressor, but it doesn't capture the full nuances.. I should be able to get it much softer and have more room to get louder, but processors get iffy when you try and play too softly into them, and they sound terrible when you clip the input.. It's easy to clip the input if you use the ebow right above the bridge pickup.. I usually switch top the neck pickup and turn the tone knob all the way down.. I also add a good amount of reverb.. I plan on doing some experiments with a real amp soon, even if I only use it for solos..
all the strings were from the XV 20-20 and the synth bass was from an Alesis QS6.1 using the Vintage synth expansion card.. I didn't add anything to the synth sounds.. Whatever effects they had on them when I turned the knob was what I used.. I didn't record any midi.. Everything was done as audio.. It took a lot of punching in, but when I'm done, I'm done.. I also enjoy actually playing the keys as opposed to programming and all that..
The drums were programmed in fruity loops but triggering an external drum module.. (Roland TD-8)
If I was making this tune for myself, I would have done more with the drums and made them louder.. My dads 71 and I don't think he's into a big drum sound..
The acoustic was DI'd (I fooled you all!)
The chain was -acoustic -Blue Max compressor.. I added some reverb, and a hint of chorus.. It was doubled (played twice).. Yeah I know micing it is the way to go, but I just wanted to record something halfway decent quickly.. I knew people wouldn't like the acoustic sound!
Everything was tuned to drop C#..
After the recording was done on the Tascam 788, I burned a cd and imported the wave into Sonar.. I added some minor e.q. and some gentle limiting..
I appreciate all the feedback guys.. To me it's stuff like this is what this place is for.. (Sending out recordings to civilians and knowing nothing is harsh or sonically offensive.)
I played it over the phone for my dad and he got teary eyed.. He bought a guitar for himself and tried to learn how to play.. He wanted to be able to jam with me when I visit my folks in Florida.. He gave up because it hurt his fingers too much, but he did manage to learn a few classics.. He sent the guitar to me in the mail.. He always asks why I dont send him music..

I would never want my parents to hear the other stuff so I'm trying to write them a whole CD of mellow stuff.. I wish I could get down to Florida and see them more..
I think I may need to get some heavy music out of my system next...
thanks guys, hope all the new and old dads out there are/were taken care of..
