....however - no need to go direct.....[/QUOTE

Just because you can get a good sound out of your mic setup is no reason to completely dismiss going in direct. There are a lot of different tones you will be throwing away.

Outlaws, you are correct. It's just that if I had gone with the Fostex VF80, there are only two inputs, so stereo miking would take both, no room for an additional direct.

Anyway, moot point, as I'm thinking of a Yamaha AW16G, or building a daw computer. I passed on the Akai just because there's no warranty, and I'm a bit nervous about spending that kind of cash with no recourse if something does'nt work...

That's a piece of paper that allows you to pay UPS $25 to send a $2,000 recording unit with a clanking disk drive to some place in Center Butte, Montana, where it sits in a steel building for six weeks and then gets returned to you in a torn package by UPS (who leaves it by your neighbor's front door under the leaky rain gutter), complete with grease marks all over the backside and a clanking disk drive.:D

I think I had one of those on a car one time......

I had to play something like a grand or two over purchase price, and then when something broke they said that one doesn't cover this. ;)
