I wrote this to Tascam. Thought I'd bring here to see if anyone in this very nice forum I just found(and am looking forward to being a member of)is experiencing the same issues.
Hello guys and heres my letter:

I have a grudge against you, Tascam, for selling me a interface that you abandoned right away.

I've been having numerous well documented problems with the Tascam US-800. (unknown USB,forgetting its plugged in, not recognizing, forcing restarts, midi issues, etc)

When searching for more information I found a plethora of people experiencing the same problems. I tried both sets of drivers. Tried many types of DAW's it is a hardware problem with its drivers.

You discontinued the product because your support team could not fix the issues is my only thoughts. I bought it on sale and now I realize it was put on sale because soon people would not pay anything for it. When it works, it works well, however the consistency is terrible. I am left with no support from the place of purchase and so all I can do is write you an angry letter.
I will avoid your products in the future as this is not a very reasonable approach to a non-working product you sold.
Thank you very much for your time, as you certainly took a Lot of mine.

Have you looked at the US800 testing thread? Most issues are actually easily worked around. Usually it is just a matter of order of powering up gear. There are issues with the way the control panel works outside of a DAW, but once again, it is just a procedure thing.

I will help you in any way I can.

mine works fine now I've worked out what order to switch on.

I don't power the tascam up until my computer is properly fired up. works fine. By switching it on first or before my PC had fully booted up made it so the computer didn't recognise it. All works great now.
