Got an email from Line 6.

It's official. Over a million Spider amplifiers are now stacked up on arena stages, fired up in recording studio iso booths and cranked up in bedrooms around the world. Why? Because guitarists know that inside every Spider amp are the legendary Line 6 amp models, effects and flexibility they trust.

Is it possible that a million of these have been built, let alone sold?

*Based on MI SalesTrak® 2010 reports.

Of course these MI SalesTrack guys could be well.... just sayin'

Hey that's great. I'm gonna run right out and buy.... nah.

So the article says 1999 was the start date.

1 000 000 amps / 4383 days = 228.154232 amps every day

Thats a LOT of amps every day....just sayin'

I fully admit to owning a Line 6 amp. I have an AX2 and I use it to gig with. When I spill a beer on it, I just towel it off and say fuck it. I spilled a beer on my Ampeg once at a show and when it hit the tubes..well.....it wasn't pretty. I got it used and it's my "disposable".

If the questions in the mic forum re: "best $100 mic" are any indicator, yeah, it's possible.

Not even the chinese can build that many amps in one day

If I ever got an email from Line6 it would go to the spam zapper.

There's at least six different 'Spider' models that I can count out loud right now (15-watt, 30-watt, 75-watt, 120-watt stereo, 150-watt stereo, and the HD150 head). So 1,000,000/6 = <166,000 of each. That's 12 years worth, or almost 14,000 a year, or 1,200 a month, or almost 40 every day. Of course, some will sell more than others, but still, those numbers seem a little high. Or maybe it's me that's just a little high. Worldwide? Maybe 40 every day isn't that bad.

I got the Line 6 email in my SPAM folder - but I hope to be the big lotto winner or Nigerian King so I always check that folder before emptying. Line 6 can blame the MI Sales Trak guys for lying so they don't care. This is apparently retail sales figures, but I doubt EVERY Line 6 retailer reports their sales - especially outside the US. Plus any company worth their salt should be able to report their amp sales (wholesale) and/or report builds.
By the way I have 10 Marshall Stacks in my bedroom - and I played in front of the Queen of England - it's true I swear! Don't believe me - try and prove it! MI Sales Trak will confirm it.

At least not ones that work....

Don't you know.....everything is made in China, except the Chinese......They're assembled in Mexico.

(It's just a joke, people. Don't get all P.C. on me)

They didn't say how many Spiders were returned. I'll bet GC rotates their stock and sends shitloads back. Then again, they always have a special on them too.

OK, I own a Line 6 Spyder 15, and it's a perfectly good cheap practice amp. So sue me. And of course a million guitarists *can* be wrong. They sold over a million Yugos. McDonald's is into the *billions* sold. 56% of American High School graduates can't find Florida on a map of the U.S. 36% of Americans can't name the vice president. It's the people who are *right* who are often in the minority.-Richie

It does what I want it to do and putting the bass through it brings out some interesting sounds too.

Good call. Line6=the McDonalds of amps.

I have enjoyed playing through Line 6 stuff and other modeling amps and pedals. You can get lots of good sounds. But live and next to a drummer, i gotta have a loud tube amp. One trick pony, but it does that one trick the best. A loud tube amp, on the clean setting, with some of your favorite pedals. But, in a studio setting there is a lot you can do with the modeling stuff. Lots of good clean sounds for sure, but a lot of the overdrive and distortion settings don't really get me off.

What are Boss pedals at? 6 million or something? I'd well believe 100 Line 6 amps are knocking about the place - they really did steal a march on the whole modelling thing...might be too soon to call it the 'modelling phase'.
