A / B opinions. Which is better (or do both suck!)

I think the new mix is better, but they both have strengths. The vocal in the new mix is much better. It's waaay distant in the old version.

I think you were trying to get a stronger low end in the new mix and you did that largely by doing EQ boosts in the bass and kick. But now the bass just sounds boomy and the kick sounds like a bouncing basketball. I'd put the kick back to what it was in the old mix and maybe just give it a could db boost. I thought it sounded decent in the old mix.

On the bass, I'd find that boomy frequency. Then instead of boosting it, cut it. Make it a very narrow cut, but fairly large - maybe 4-5 dbs. Then boost the overall level of the bass track by 3-4 dbs. See if that improves the low end without making the whole thing rumble.

The distorted guitar sounds better in the new mix. Maybe just because the level of the song is just louder.

Never apply EQ to the whole song, that is only use for fine tweaking on the final mix, and also during the mastering process. Otherwise you'll end up with some weird results. Although the snare sounds powerful, the kick drum lacks definition and yes, it also reminds me of a bouncing ball. This can be easily fixed treating each channel separately.
