Hey,
My friend has an 840 EX that we recorded 8 songs on about two years ago. Since then I've built a comp recording system using Vegas. The 840 project sits dormant on zips disks and wish lists and I would love to know the best way to utilize the computer and software to make these raw tracks come together and end up with a final product.
Must I leave the digital domain to do so?

Please keep in mind that I truely am an ignorant cuss and need to be led slowly.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Theron.

BR8 and Vegas = ROCK!

Hmmm ... I'm recording with my BR8 and mixing with Vegas. For BR8 there is a software that converts the Roland zip file type, which is not readable by PCs, into *.wav, which can be read by PCs and Vegas.

Is there such a software for 840 is another question.

Try here for possible software I mentioned!

Good luck! :)

No luck so far. Has anyone else had sucess with this or any alternative means of transfering the tracks from the 840ex to computer software?

BHead - Why don't you mix on the BR-8, what is it you don't like about the BR-8 mixdown?

Well ...

Fender,

It's not anything that I don't like about the BR-8. I love it to death indeed! :D

However, I don't have a standalone CD recorder that can burn a CD right from the BR-8. And my computer's sound card is not as decent for me to record on it. That's why I convert the tracks to WAV and do the mixing down in Vegas and then burn it!!! Plus Vegas gives the extra flexibility that a standalone like BR-8 can't offer.

Theron,

Sorry to hear that. I'm pretty sure you can record directly from your 840 to your computer sound card. I haven't tried this myself before, but hopefully there is someone out there who can help! Good luck!

Ahh, I was just curious. I don't have a ZIP drive but I do have a SB Live soundcard, it's alright for recording to the harddrive and I have an internal CD burner.

O.K. , so I'll lower my standards and ask the best way to get those tracks from th 840ex to Vegas with a beringer mx602a mixer and sblive as the go between.

Anyone

Gracias
Theron

You can also update your 840ex to a 840gx. You have to download an update on the Roland page. and follow instructions.
That update allows you to convert 2 stereotracks to a wav-file. So you can mixdown to 2 tracks and convert it to wav.

note: you can't convert the wav file back in the 840 though. It's a oneway ticket.
