OK... spent a good part of this holiday weekend re-aquainting myself with my gear.... Had a blast, but need to know if what I'm hearing is translating OK...

Little blast from the 80's... I'm playing everything... There's some clunky notes but I'm looking for mix critique more than anything...

But feel free to tear it all apart if you wish :D

From the Rabbit Hole

Tanx!

That is really cool Rabbit !!!

I want to listen some more.

Is this your band? I hear a chick back-up.

Good intro and I love your outro with the plunks !!!

Your drums sound really hot....bet you grin the whole time you play em eh? :D

I like the tones on the guitars.

I am listening on the headphones. It sounds good to me.

Safety Dance is a classic. Nice job. I'd like to hear the power chords in the 'we can dance' part more up front. I like the way the kick accents the snare, but you could bring both them up in the mix as well. Sounds like you had fun with it. Good stuff

Cool, Rabbit...nice job on the vocals.

I think the mix with what you played sounds pretty good. I can hear all the sounds, and they don't step on each other.
If you do re-record anything, make the guitar a bit more modern....I think a bigger, fuller guitar could compliment teh drum and bass parts, plus your voice is pretty full.

Cool version of this.

I agree that a bigger guitar sound is in order. Also, maybe bring the drums (snare) up a little and I think the vocals are a little too reverby. That roll at 2:41 is pretty cool. Other than that, its a great modern job on a song I had forgotten all about. I love hearing old 80's one-hit-wonders re-done. Very cool. :)

Tanx all! :)

I'll see what I can do on the guitars... I just got the little B-Word V-Amp and that's what was used with my little Fender Squire... John Petrucci I'm certainly not ;)

No band True... Just me ignoring the family and playing in my studio... Including the 'chick' backup vocals

:D :D :D

Will there be paddles involved?

You want there to be paddles involved? Sorry, wrong forum. :D

I am listening now Mr Rabbit.

Hey Rabbit, you have a good voice!!...even the gurl one !!! :D

Dog, your guitar part really sets it all off...I really like this tune.

No nit pics from this sharkey. ;)

Sounds very good, the vox sound very realistic and "80s". The main nit is the beginning:

1. Trim the noise

2. Its weak.

The beginning isnt quite together with the guitars and the hi-hat.

Very cool, me likey.

The Dogman guitar was a good add. Good mix. To me the snare is a bit to quiet. It's there but barley on my system. Could just be my ears though.
Had band practice last night.

Oh... ditto on Davidk's comment about cleaning up the begining. I can see the end remaining as is if that's what you wanted.

Good job!

Another mix with Dogman adding an awesome guitar to help fill things out

:)

Men With Broken Hats Mix 2
That did seem to fill the guitar part up a bit..which one did you use?

Sounds a bit more modern now, but still has the original vibe...

Nice mix man...

I used both your amp tracks... I kept one just a little lower and kicked it a little to the right... Seemed to blend it into the mix...

But then I ran out of time and had to go to work

I love this song for some reason Mr Rabbit!

I enjoyed listening to this version of yours. The guitar mix on this second mix is definitely not so harsh in relation to the over powering highs on the first mix. The melody playing guitar sounds almost bag pipish which I think is a good thing.
The snare could benefit from a slight boost in the high-mids to give it a little more room and a little more personality. I love the drum roll/fill at 2:41.
Your vocals sound great, maybe a little too much depth is transposed with the level of reverb you have here. A slight reduction in this would bring the vocals a tad more forward and would thus allow it to be more present in the mix.

These are just little nit picks that I targeted and are purely aimed to be constructive.
Excellent work Rabbit, it has made me think about covering an 80's tune myself.

Excellent stuff! :) :) :) :)

Tanx Gort! :)

If you wanna give a hand on an 80's mess... errr... mix, I worked on one yesterday that is in need of a tasty guitar solo...

I was thinking about giving it a stab but that could take hours given my sucktitude at guitar playing

:o

Interested?
