545s

I recently purchased a 545s and It works fine when the phantom power is turned off but once the phantom power switch goes on the mic goes loses tons of gain (about 30-40 db.) and loses all bass and mids. Is this a problem with the cable or a problem w/ the mic. Its the only dynamic that does it and I can't change out cables because the connection to the mic is a 4 prong cable.

yea i know but at the moment i use it on a board that supplies phantom power to the entire board and not single channels when I also need to run a few condensers.

Well, I would say that you need some preamps other than the board you're using for the 545s. I'm assuming you're recording drums with this setup, in which case you would need to have a bunch of mics tracking at the same time. If not, just record whatever you're recording with the 545s separately.

you might be able to re-wire the cable. that is the only thing I can think of.
