So, I was just preparing to record some new stuff when I found out the stereo signal is somehow f***ed up. There's only signal coming in on the left side (speakeR), the right VU meter is also not doing anything. The problem is not in the speaker, cause when Mono is enabled both speakers work.
Anyone have an idea what my problem could be?

Uhh,...

Cables?

Nah, I have no idea. It's not a common problem that lends itself to long distance troubleshooting.

There may be a faulty connector or cable. Try different combinations. How's it sound on the phones?

Good luck. ;)

Are the pan pots all somehow panned to the left on the mixer's channel strips?

If not, I too am in the same camp of head scratchers?

Good luck!

it must be something internal, it also doesn't work with headphones.
As soon as I pan shit to the right my signal drops to a minimum volume. The VU movement is minimal.

Also, another problem.. Everytime I thread a new tape, as soon as the the tension wheels are activated there is this electrical noise heard. Crackles/pops.
Any idea what this might be?

That sounds like trouble in the power supply but, I am not a certified technician, though, I play one on TV! :D

Best get that puppy to the vet, post haste. :(

Cheers! :)

Yeah, I agree with that.

It may be a component that's shorted to ground, or a power supply issue, but either way, it may require a technician to fix.

The only layman's troubleshooting you might try, is to open the top hatch of the unit, pull and reseat all the cards in the card cage. There might be a connection that's gone foul from oxidation. Also, while you're in there, check all the fuses in the fuse section with an ohm meter. Make sure it's unplugged, before going in deep.

Beyond that, find a tech you trust for further troubleshooting and repair.

It's not one of those things that lends itself well to bbs long distance troubleshooting, but try what I've suggested above, and if/when you've found the trouble & gotten it fixed, please let us know how it turned out!!
