Actually... judging from the comments I'd seen... I was expecting this to be horrible.... and it really isn't!

Sure sonic issues with the mix.... there's no real punch or dynamics to the groove and everything sounds kind of squashed.... over-sibilant vocals - fairly static drums, but yet... pretty damn good for a novice! Even thru the sonic problems there's a lot of stuff that is also reasonably placed and some obvious thought was given to mix elements....

I'd say it's the very early start of ears in the making.... if you stick with it Tukkis, I beleive you'll eventually develop your skills!!

And Tyler, I don't hear any peaks there... quite the opposite, actually - very squashed.......!
 
You don't hear the low end going crazy right at about 20 seconds?
 
the technical side has been covered..

I will say it sounded like it fell apart around 2:10.. I see what you were going for though..

the bass sound is not consistent..

I agree the mix sounds squashed, except @ 2:10ish where the bass gets out of hand..

good overall though..

No... didn't notice any low-end craziness on my V8s!
 
you and your v8's...it sounds like a vegitable drink... actually i'm thinking about looking at v8's instead of mackies but anyway...i wonder if my sb card just has lower headroom, cuz I know its not the speakers. They're cheap, but they're good for computer speakers and they;re turned up like an 8th of their total power.

...or was it a reference to v8's having no low end...hehehe

Hey misterx I can see where your coming from but formal training doesn't make a good musician. I can't read music and have had no training at all. Neither has Jimi Hendrix, Paul Mcartney or Elton John. Not that Im comparing myself with those guy's. My older brother had formal traing and he knows the name of all these fancy chords and scales backwards but can't play with any kind of feel at all. He's just technically there (sorry Gary). Sometimes when Im playing something to him he would say whats that cool scale you just did and I have no idea. It turned out to be not a legitamate scale at all. It just sounded right to me. He who can play by ear will always be light years ahead of he who needs to read music.
Im sure Ill be criticised for saying this but Its what I beleive. I can usually work out how to play a song on guitar by the end of the song while listening to it the first time. Nowing how to read music wouldn't help that at all.
Playing in an orchestra is a different ball game. The music gets handed to you on paper and you need to be able to read it and play it good. But for popular music styles like rock n roll etc all you need have is a good ear.
Things like plumbing and making a burger or building a house are all things that can be tought to anyone. Creative things like drawing, surfing or music rely more on inate natural born talent. But I know that many will disagree with this. Its not knowing the notes that matters, its how you deliver them. Sorry for the ranting.........

Yes, I can. I'm studying music at high school where I learn to compose and NOTATE music

Not quite sure what you mean there, are you saying someone who reads music can't improvise or "jam"? Dead wrong there. I'll give you a recent example of something "interesting". I hired a 17 year kid from a local school to lay down some guitar tracks for me. I told him "g minor to f7 and then c major". He had no idea what I was talking about. It took him almost 30 minutes to learn these chords. However, he really seemed to play the guitar well in free style mode. Bottom line, he won't get any studio work if he doesn't make it on his own.

But let's move on with this thread, Tukkis is having fun, making freinds on this forum, I've played the crusty old teacher figure too long in this thread. Go jam, write your songs, have fun. Leave the boring formal training to someone else.

No misterx, most people who can read can improvise and jam. I agree, geeeez.
Im just saying that if you cant play by ear then no amount of training will make you a good player. Unless you want to play in an orchestra.

That example doesn't mean anything to me. Knowing what a C chord or a D7th chord is, is basic stuff. You pick up a chord chart and it tells you where to put your fingers for the chords. Dead easy. We all have done it. Thats not reading music to me. To me, reading music is actually understanding a note or chord thats writen in dots in the ledger lines.Ive seen sheet music for guitar. Sometimes it even draws the chords for you. And 9 out of 10 times its just your basic open chord too. When the real song might of used a bar chord version instead. You can play an "A" chord in many diferent positions along the neck to get a different feel. Now you can just read off the chords and play it wrong or you can use your ear and find the exact sound and phrasing of the chord or chord progression. Ive read through Zeplin and hendrix sheet music and its all wrong. It puts you in the right key but sounds wrong. In fact I've never seen any sheet music for guitar thats actually been what the guy's really playin. Because its usually typed up by someone else with a bad ear for whats really going on. Look I'm very sorry but Im very passionate about this subject. Ive seen too many technically compatant guitarists
that don't have an ear for music and they don't get the studio gigs because of it.

I don't want to drift any further from this topic anymore, it's not fair to Tukkis. BUT, I will say this, I saw the guitarist play and assumed he knew his chords. Then I hired him..(ok he worked for peanuts..). But still I was surprised about the chord situation.
