seriously? that blows if audio editing is anything like visual editing! I'd have to seriously wonder about plug-ins and all - if they affect audio like they do in image editing software, those are big changes.

It's very much like video editing, that's why it's nice to have the biggest audio sample you can to work with when editing/mastering and mixing to 16 bit.

I'm still looking for a DAW. Does the 2488 have mix automation? I don't need flying faders, just level changes recorded.

I also need 4 or 5 tracks recorded simultaneously for some drums.

Some reverbs that are editable would be nice, and some trs channel inserts too.

sweepable eq 4 band would be nice too.

How are the pre-amps? How many inputs have xlr and phantom?

What other considerations did you guys have and what do you like about it?

i'd buy a used roland 2480 before i'd buy the 2488.It has more features- like automix and you can hook a monitor-many sample rates ect..the 2488 only runs at 44k

what if 12 tracks were enough to suit a given Individual? would your feelings change about the unit?

I don't own the unit. A friend who I am working with owns it. he hasn't gotten very far into the learning curve. any hints?

even if 12 tracks would suffice, would you still have bought the korg?

thanks much!

I had to change the Korg too! before i had it as it was going to take 3 months to come!!!!

I ended up with the Yamaha AW16G

yes i know its just 16 bit and only 16 tracks ...and 4 of those are sterio tracks...

but i need it to get Audio into Cubase and for that it is great...it is solid in a metal case, has not glitched once....and has a very good feel to it..along with some very nice effects...

the Tascam felt cheep sounded good while it worked....but to be honest Tascam are cheep and i did not want to take it back and "wait till i got one of the good ones" just so it busts a year later then the garanty has ran out...

your answer is ...no you dont have to have 24 tracks and so on...but you want somthing that is strong and will not let you down....

i would go for Yamaha or Rolland....i never got to try the Korg allthough its meant to be cool too.

warning...at the first the Yamy is about as stright forward as a a maze..but once you sink your teath into it it is very smooth
