24 Track mixer recomendations

If you are using your A&H for a front end to a DAW (like me) monitoring is not a concern because you playback from the DAW.

Basically, I bought my mixer for 24 decent preamps and channels of ok sounding EQ.

Currently I record to an HD24XR and mix on my desk. I haven't gotten too serious about moving "to the box" yet. I guess I could get a 32 channel A&H and use the first 16 for inputs and the second 16 to monitor playback, since I have never needed all 24 tracks of the HD... would swapping out the Mackie be worth it? Hmmmm....

Thanks for all your help so far, im having second thoughts about an analogue mixer mainly cos I havent found anything suitable second hand for sale.

I have a MOTU 2408 MK2 kickin' around that ive had for ages, never used it.

Im wondering is it possible to pair this up with my Fostex D2424LV ?

The idea being I record onto the Fostex then out of the Fostex into the MOTU out to the PC where I can mix on the PC then burn a CD from the PC.

Does that make sense? I cant actually try this as I dont have the leads to connect the Fostex to the MOTU. But it sounds perfect as I already have all the gear (apart from the leads).

There is no reason that you can't do that. I own the Fostex and use use an RME card and have an extra MOTU 2408 sitting in my rack. It will work just fine:) In fact, you can hook it up to the MOTU, put the Fostex in "input monitor" mode, and not ever even hit record on the Fostex but record straight into your DAW. Basically, you can make it an affordable 24 channel converter.
