how much and what kind of difference is there between 20 and 24 bit? i REALLY want to buy a layla, but hate to pass up the extra 4 bits if it is going to make a difference.

I think you should pay attention to the quality of the converters rather then the bit's.
A good 20 bit converter is a better option then a less so, 24 bit.
