Has anyone ever tried recording to n-track using the "record stereo to two mono tracks" option?

I'm thinking if I pan left on my vocals at the board, and pan right with the instruments (line in-bass and guitar, ambient drums). I might be able to get two tracks for the price of one?

Just wondering if anyone has tried it.

Thanks!

You get just the same result by recording a stereo track and splitting it to two monos. Depending on your mixer I think you will get leakage even with hard L and R panning. But it doesn't cost anything to try - let us know what happens and what kit you used.

Sure, that's how most people do it. In fact, soundcards with more inputs (4,8, etc) have their mono inputs grouped into stereo pairs...so you do the stereo->2 tracks option 99% of the time.
