I've been recording in my home studio for a month now and I am still needing some assistnace on mixing the vocals. Here is the first song that I recorded in my studio. I've learned how to pan.
TAscam us-122 interface
Cakewalk pro Audio 9
Akai MPC2000xl
Triton LE
Octavia MK319
Izotope Ozone 2

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I am certainly no expert about rap, but I'll give you a few thoughts.

The beat is pretty standard. It sounds good, but doesn't really stand out to me in any way. The drum sounds are tired. The keyboard sounds cool at first, but gets old very quick. At over 6:30, this song needs to have some more variation. It just never goes anywhere.

One of the rappers sounds like he is about to start crying at any moment. I don't know, it's just a strange vocal delivery. There are some interesting rhymes and a decent flow, but as with the beat, there is far too much repetition to keep the song interesting for its entire length. I felt like the vocals could use a little more beef on the sound end, too. Bring up the level and use the proximity effect of the mics to your advantage.

I think if you shortened this song up and added some more variety, it could be pretty cool.

you need to blend the noise of the sound clip at the beginning better with song.

I hate rap, so I don't know if this vocal style is good or not. I personally think it stinks..

I saw the parental advisory....when it got to those parts, I stopped listening... jumped ahead...was the same stuff.

Pretty boring, I'd think for rap... sorry.

I think the "crying" rapper style makes it more interesting. It would be even better if i could hear him. Turn him up methinks.

Choose the best 3 minutes of lyrics and drop out the rest. Maybe drop a bass line and some samples periodically to give it more development.
