1680 ?????????????

Man, I just dont understand this machine sometimes. Maybe it is just too old and I need to upgrade. How do you free up memory besides optimizing songs/erasing unused songs/erasing unwanted tracks? I have done all this and it still runs out of room, and I have had more loaded on it before and it worked just fine. Is there a factory restet also? It is pissing me off, I havnt even got done paying for it yet, and it is giving me fits!
 
Try re-initializing the hard drive (after backing everything up, of course...)

Well, that is just one of the problems. I archived a set of three songs for a project I was working on, and whiped the hard drive. Then when I tried to reload, only 2 songs made it. The third kept getting stuck at 12% and wouldnt load completely. Then I uploaded another song, and all the tracks didnt line up and something from another song somehow crept in the mix. I am just pissed off at the thing right now. Is there anyway I can reload the operating system without having to send it to roland corp?
 
I dunno. Rolandus.com used to keep OS updates at their site, but I haven't been there for a while. Wouldn't hurt to look, and updating the OS is relatively easy if you have a MIDI interface.

I have an 880EX, but I haven't changed the OS since they introduced the MTK/speaker modeling algorithms a few years back. The procedure is the same for the 1680, and I've never known anyone to have a problem. If you get the files off of Rolandus, there should be an instruction sheet. Follow them, and it's a piece of cake, even for a technophobe mididiot like me.

If this doesn't help, then the only thing I can think of is that your hard drive needs replacing.

Yeah, I think it is time to replace the drive. It is divided into two partitions. I have never used the second one, the first one has always had plenty of room. It usually had like a 1200 min cap. Now I have erased all the songs, initialized the drive, and erased all the events. And now it has a cap of 2 in 48 sec. The drive is completely swiped and it has 2 minuites left on it. And the other partition only has a cap. of 558 min. So now I have to use the smaller partition and I cannot burn a full length cd because of a lack of memory. What the fat? Ok so now, where can I get a replacement drive?
 
I'd do a search over at www.vsplanet.com. There have been threads there that list the appropriate HD replacements, and instructions on how to go about doing it. Again, from what I've read, the procedure is relatively painless.

Whoa hoooo!!! I got it. I did a drive check, and it came up with some errors. Then it asked if I wanted to recover the drive. I hit yes and 5 min later, I was looking at a completely restored 1200min cap hard drive. Man I feel so much better. Hopefully it wont do that again for a while.:D
 
Jblount- here's a quick fix that may help with your CD recover. Get a CD cleaner disc and run it on CD play. Often backup and recover problems are because the lens on the CDR drive is dirty. As far as the memory problem, beats me. Optomizing all the songs, backing them up, and deleting them should free up your hard drive. If not, you may actually require maintenance. In the mean time, clean the CDR drive, back eveything up, and re-initialize the hard drive. Good luck. Remember to optomize the songs *before* you back them up.-Richie
