Question for anyone who has or knows about the Mac Mini. How do I connect an audio device or instrument to it? I had thought there was an 1/8" input jack but apparently I got it confused with the iMac. Do I have to get some kind of USB conversion cable? Where can I find one? I feel like a...
Anyone know of some good sites for posting ads looking for band members? My band is looking for a keyboardist-guitarist-singer cuz the one we have is leaving. I found a couple sites that I've posted on already but if anyone knows of some good ones I'd appreciate hearing about them.
Thanks...
I always liked "Screaming Dead People"
You know in the Indiana Jones movies, whenever they ran into a corpse it would always scream.
My brother came up with the name "Venison Switch"
I don't know where he got that one.
It's not too bad a program. 4 audio tracks are a little limiting. I tried it out for a little bit since it was free. It seemed to record audio well. Never used the midi tracks. Has some decent audio effects.
I didn't use it much cuz I liked ProTools a lot better. They got a free version...
On most CD-Rs, if there's a "precautions" section on the box or jewel case it will say "Do not attach labels to either side of the disc."
It's obvious why not to attach it to the record side, but why does it matter on the other side? How can a label hurt it? And if labels can hurt CD-Rs, why...
I hear a lot of them on a radio show I listen to, Bob and Tom. I don't know what their coverage area is but if you're in the midwest you've probably heard them.
They played a song called "Enormous Penis" that was hillarious.
They also play songs from a parody band called The Electric Amish...
Hi. I'm looking for a decent waveform editor for PC that can Normalize. On the Mac I've used Sound Designer and Peak but I don't know of good ones for PC. The main feature I'm looking for is normalizing.
Anyone got any recomendations?

Whichever you want.
My keyboard is connected to my computer and it has its own sounds.
My soundcard also has its own sounds.
I have, therefore, two groups of sounds to choose from. You can choose which ones you want to use.
I like to use my keyboard's patches because they are better quality...
You don't need a keyboard, but it helps.
Most midi sequencer programs allow for step entering. You can type in the notes and their duration or draw them in with the mouse. I know Cakewalk, ProTools, and Cubase will let you do midi tracks. Often entering these notes with a keyboard is easier...
"Paradise Theater" and "Kilroy Was Here" -- Styx
Kinda stretches the definition, but:
"Point of Know Return" -- Kansas
Definitely an album with related themes running through it, anyway.
Glad someone mentioned "The Wall" -- Pink Floyd.
It had to be said.
I hear Barry Manilow is coming out...
Kind of a survey here. What are y'all's opinions on concept albums? What are your favorites? By concept album I simply mean a whole album that has a unified theme or story.
I love these things (the ones I've come across, anyways).
Some of my favorites are:
"Scenes From A Memory" -- Dream...
1) Kansas. I dig their style and imagination. They are each amazing musicians and their lyrical content is deep and moving.
2) Right now I'm listen to a lot of Dream Theater. They're kind of a mix of Kansas, Rush, and Pink Floyd. I've also recently discovered the joys of Tool. That took me...
I've been trying to open up a midi file of mine in Pro Audio 9.
The file was:
1) originally created in Digital Performer on a Mac
2) saved as a Standard Midi file with GM instruments only
3) imported into Finale98 and saved on the Mac
4) opened and saved in a Finale2000 file on my PC
5)...
I'm curious what y'all do to get in the mood to write a song.
I'm kind of an odd duck among my friends who write songs. They have such an easy time about it. I only seem to be able to write songs when I'm feeling strong emotions. When I write a song with a certain emotion attached to it, I...
Sounds like you got a nice computer.
You will need some sequencing software. Many different ones out there. Most of them have downloadable demos you can try out to do some shopping before you buy them (or -Gasp!- bootleg them). To name a few: Cubase, Cakewalk, ProTools, N-Tracks.
You'll...
Whatever the transfer method, the recording itself is digital if done by a computer. Your recording takes the form of 1s and 0s in computer memory. There is nothing recording amplitudes on little magnetic strips.
So yes, you're right.
Paging Zeppelin Fans,
Anybody know what kind of organ John Paul Jones used in "Thank You" from Zeppelin 2?
I'd like to find that patch on a keyboard but I'm not sure what to look for.
Thanks
