    CD duplication services

Oh, BTW - I went ahead and did all the business stuff - got registered with the State Dept. of Revenue to get a tax ID, got the local business license, etc. With the tax ID, I could buy the supplies (Jewel cases, etc.) and not have to pay tax since they were for resale. Plus, I figured that if...

    CD duplication services

follow-up Thanks for all the suggestions! Here's what ended up happening: Had friend in St. Louis who "sold" a bunch of CD's by letting lots of friends hear the copy I burned for her as a b-day present. Her friends all wanted them for Christmas presents, so I made the decision to get them...

    old cassettes to digital

Thanks for the replies! I'll definitely check into the software. And, I'll definitely need to get a better tape deck than what I have... Now, if I could just get my brothers and sister to go in with me on the cost of everything!

    old cassettes to digital

Hope you guys have some good suggestions here. I have some old cassettes of my mom from about 30 years ago and several hundred from my dad (some more recent). My mom had a "verbal" correspondence with a friend and they mailed cassette tapes back and forth instead of letters. My dad was a...

    CD duplication services

So, I'm finally going to try to get my music on CD and want some input about CD duplication services. Anyone have good/bad experiences with some internet-advertised companies? Also - wondering how much better the CD would look with photos printed instead of just the song titles? Is it worth...

    Computer purchase advice

Thanks for the words of wisdom. Yes, I checked out the "Roll Your Own". With my schedule these days, I honestly don't think I've got the TIME (or knowledge) to mess with all the planning, ordering, assembling, etc. to build my own. I'm at the stage of life where it's almost better to know...

    Computer purchase advice

I am currently using a Tascam 488 to record vocal and classical guitar. I am about to get a new computer and want to also look at getting software to record with computer and burn CD's. I have about $1500 total to spend (monitor, printer, etc.). What suggestions on hardware and software can...

    488 to CD?

My kids are wanting to get a new computer and we're thinking about going with a CD-R drive for back-ups, etc. That got me thinking....What are the possibilities with hooking up my 488 to the computer to burn a CD? Or, should I look at some computer-based recording program? I admit I'm pretty...

    Tascam 488

I read in another BBS that TASCAM was not going to make any more analog (tape) 8 track recorders....they were going to go all digital! It might have even been the TASCAM BBS where I read it, but that was a few weeks ago and I'm not sure.

    488 - No sound. Help!!!

Thanks Chipper! - I think I was doing all that correctly. I did have time today to stop by a friend's business and he couldn't get any input either. I bought the thing via ebay, so have written the seller to see what he wants to do about it. We'll see.... I just want to be sure it's not me...

    488 - No sound. Help!!!

OK....just got a used 488 and am following instructions to the letter for mixing and recording and am still not getting anything. Was using an SM-58 mic with XLR and an adaptor to plug into the machine (it only takes 1/4"). Borrowed a hi-Z mic/cord and plugged it in....still nothing. Any...

    micing acoustic guitar

I remember reading how to mic an acoustic guitar (in this BBS?), but now that I'm ready to do it, I can't remember or find where I read it. Someone want to help me out? I'll be using a TASCAM 488 and have two SM-57's and an SM-58. Thanks!

    SM48 vs SM58

I just had a chance to compare the two "side-by-side" and you're right, Hot Rocks...the 58 definitely is hotter. It picked up my voice with much more volume than the 48 did with no other adjustments made than changing mics. Thanks, Hot Rocks....I was kinda curious.

    SM48 vs SM58

So....what's the difference between these two mics? Anyone with experience with them? Thanks!

    488 vs 424?

Thanks, ledhed. Just got a reply from the seller tonight, so looks like things will go through for me to get the 488. Guess it's like having a bigger, faster car compared to a slow one....you can always go below your limits, but can never go above them. By getting the 8-track, I'll set myself...

    488 vs 424?

I'm looking for opinions on whether a TASCAM 488 or 424 would be better for a newbie? I'll tell you that I just bought a 488 on e-bay, but am wondering whether the deal will go through....seller has been VERY slow with communication prior to the end of the sale. Immediately after the end of...

    TASCAM videos

Thanks jimimac, Raj, and lazyboy! You are probably right about the manual being your best source of info. Still no response from anyone who has actually SEEN the videos....if you hear anything about them from someone who has, let me know, ok? Thanks again!

    TASCAM videos

Hey - anyone ever looked at the TASCAM videos they put out for their portastudios? There's a beginner one and another one for advanced stuff. I'm looking at buying a 424 mkIII for my first machine and am curious how helpful the videos would be, especially since I don't know anyone around here...

    TASCAM videos, self-help books

Thanks for your reply, Green Hornet! I'm definitely doing some reading up on these forums and it has been pretty informative. Still no word from anyone who has seen the TASCAM videos, though....I think I'll try posting something in the TASCAM users forum. Sometimes videos can be extremely...
