488 to CD?

My kids are wanting to get a new computer and we're thinking about going with a CD-R drive for back-ups, etc. That got me thinking....What are the possibilities with hooking up my 488 to the computer to burn a CD? Or, should I look at some computer-based recording program? I admit I'm pretty clueless and would appreciate input and advice from you guys!

This is entirely possible. You just need an RCA-to-1/8" plug cable from Radio Shack (a couple of bucks) to run from your line outs on the back of your 488 to the sound input jack on the back of your computer (Line in, NOT mic in). Then you need a program to record your music onto the computer and save it as a WAV or MP3 file. You can buy a nice one like CoolEdit Pro, or find a Shareware program. The Shareware Music Machine site has a lot of cool programs, I recommend GoldWave. It's free and easy. Then you can burn these files to CD. It's easy.
