    mic .. ripping?

On alot of belt packs there is a pad switch that will cut the signal -10 dB or so...I don't know if you've checked for that, and I doubt there is one on your handheld. Actually, I think looking at the manual that there is a gain adjustment on the receiver...if this is the right manual...

Snare Shootout - My Three Snares (audio)

Hey Greg_L, by the way, what's wrong with the ambassadors? I've used some other stuff but I usually end up coming back to those.

    I love guitar center thread

I like the guitar center for the most part. I've had some good experiences there with workers helping me try stuff out. I usually buy strings and small things there if I need them immediately, and have made a few larger purchases as well. I had my first really bad experience with them this...

Snare Shootout - My Three Snares (audio)

If anyone's interested, I did a test song with the acro and my new tweed blues jr. yesterday too which is here... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=694635&songID=7204484 I bumped the acro a little at 1k-ish, but that's it other than limiting. And sorry about the...

Snare Shootout - My Three Snares (audio)

Hey everyone. I spend so much time on here and on youtube deciding what drum pieces to buy I decided to contribute and do a shootout of my own for fun. I am a guitar player who has really grown to love the drums equally, so I am slowly building up my equipment. I have most of the info in the...

    Akg c414 on Snare

I used two (top and bottom) on one project and it sounded great...i had alot of hat bleed though, which was probably partially due to mic, partially due to placement, partially due to proximity of hats to snare

    Again...

Hey, just wanted to pop in and say I typically love the stuff you post, but with this one I don't really like how wet everything is. I saw someone suggest more of a hall type thing, so I was wondering what it was like before. The drums seem a little choked to me for his style, but maybe I would...

Non kick mics to use on kick drum

I often use an LDC in front of my kick drum with a kick mic in the hole. I would imagine if your kick sounds good, that the MXL LDC a few inches in front of the kick (not in front of the hole because of the air like someone said) would give you a really good sound by itself. Definitely would...

which of my mics for acoustic guitar?

I echo that the 81's would be great. I would mess around with stereo too just to see if you like it.

Acoustic guitar and singing: to use a metronome?

They only time I do not use one is doing scratch tracks for ideas. Anytime I want to do anything with a final written version, even acoustic versions, I use one. It just makes everything more cohesive for me. Especially because I usually record acoustic and vocals separately.

    New Interface vs. mic pre

A few reviews I saw did say the converters on the M-Audio weren't the best. Can you bypass the preamp on it? If not then I would definitely get a different soundcard first. If you are planning on getting some really nice pres in the future then I would find a card that is just some really nice...

Recording an EP, some questions on the drums

I agree with the post above. The snare will not sound good tracked unless when you hear it in the room you think, "that sounds amazing." If you ever play with a drummer who knows great drums/tuning, you will understand this. Again with the muddiness, it could be tuning. If you are looking for...

    My raw drum clip!

Dude, I would take it as a compliment that people think it's samples. Alot of pro records use beat detector and samples mixed in so heavily to make pro drummers sound like that. Also, I think the drums sound great, very usable, especially for B8 crashes...I know, I've had to work with them before.

    First recording in student house!

Mainly just a little less OH and more individual mics. If you are recording each mic to separate tracks, maybe try a little limiting on the snare and kick to fatten them up? Not sure if that would help, just mess around with it until you like it!

    First recording in student house!

Dude, I think that sounds really good. My only complaint is that the individual drums need alot more presence. The kick is maybe the best, but the snare especially sounds really washed out. I'm assuming you are premixing a stereo track for the drums, so that means using less OH and way more...

"The Wedding Song" - mixing, mastering for review

I produced this song as part of a project my senior year. I also performed the guitars, vox, and keys. I would like some feedback on the song in general, specifics about the mix, and also the mastering. I feel that the mastering is the weakest...the listening environment was not ideal, and I...
