Lets talk about the crazy Earthworks mics...

I'm talking about the SDC's that go to 40K......both times I have been involved with a project (one jazz, one pop rock, different studios, signal chains, etc.) where they were used as the drum overheads, I have thought that they sounded really awkward in the mix....good by themselves but didn't sit well with the other stuff

however, I'm pretty sure this shouldn't be the case because most people love these things right?

So...i'm just wondering who has used them, and your thoughts on how they worked for you...thanks


edit: i was thinking maybe it's because they're omnis and i didn't like the room sound or something?
 
I have a pair of SR-71's. They're at the lower end of the food chain as far as Earthworks mics go but I like them fine.
 
Well ... they're not really going to lie or flatter anything.

If you can't get them to sound right, then chances are it has more to do with your kit or your room.
