Well, Gidge and all the rest, I joined the JBL club this weekend! My question has to deal with connecting the speakers to my Korg D1600.
In the JBL manual, it states that "the XLR input is +4dbu sensitivity and the RCA input is -10dbv".
Looking at the back of the Korg, the outputs for both the...
For home studio use (I currently use a Korg D1600 Recorder). A few of you rave about the JBLs, and I guess everyone ran out of patience with the Yorkvilles. Now I can buy either, so what should I do? (I have to do SOMETHING- I just listened to my first cd, which I mixed on Sony headphones, and...
With all the mic sims available these days, I was wondering which microphone works best with them. I use an SM57- will this do, or is there a mic out there which will better utilize the simulator software?
There's lots of microphone modeling software out there, and a lot of the new portastudios have mic sims onboard. Which microphone works best with these devices? I have an SM57- do I need something better?
I noticed there wasn't one. Do you think there's enough of an interest on this board to create one? My guess is, with the new D1600, there will be a lot of interest in the near future. Your thoughts?
I'm about a month away from getting a new D1600 with the built-in CD burner. I know they just started shipping last week, but has anyone had the chance to play with one of these babies,or if not, does anyone know if it's been reviewed yet?
Thanks!
To save you all the time of having to answer this stupid question, I performed a search on the words "phantom power", and while noone addressed it directly, as best as I can make out, it's necessary when using condenser mics. If I don't use condenser mics, do I need it? I ask, because I'm...
I think I've narrowed it down to these 2 machines (awright, I really want the new Yamaha AW4416 with the built-in cd burner, but it's three times as much!). Both the Korg and Fostex have 16 tracks, cd burning, and built-in effects. It seems Korg has Fostex beat on the effects stuff, but I really...
I'm thinking of spending around $1000. I'm looking at the Korg D-16, the Fostex VF-16, the Akai DSP (or is it DPS), and was wondering what you all thought about them (or others in the same price range). Anyone???
Oh, yea- if this has been done before (and I guess it probably has!), could...
Earlier this year, I wrestled with which way to go digitally, PC or standalone. I knew I wanted better than my old Yamaha 4-track cassette, and weighed the plusses and minuses of both. In the end, I was so twisted around, I decided to do nothing until the Fall, and well, here we are. I'm...
At first glance I thought the BR-8 was everything I was looking for- low cost, easy to use, digital editing, etc. I decided against buying it for the following reasons- 1)no XLR input, 2)100 Meg zip drive doesn't hold enough, 3)optical output limits CD burning ability. Now, the question- does...
Hi. I'm trying to decide which soundcard to buy- the AArdvark Direct Pro 24/96 or the Lexicon Core 2. The big advantage of the 24/96 is that it has built-in mic pre-amps, where the Lexicon does not. I own a Tascam M-208 mixing board with 4 PGM outs, and I'm wondering if the mic pre-amps in it...
Help! I'm having a problem here! It seems that when I turn off the power to my drum machine for any lengh of time, all the patterns, songs, voicings, etc. which i've previously saved are wiped out of memory. Hours of hard work are lost! Also, I've experienced this in the past when I've...
I'm about to get a computer from my company. It's a 2-year old HP Vectra with a Pentium 200, 2.5 gigs of hard drive and 128 megs ram. Will I have any problems running n-track on this rig?
O.K., I'm overdue to ask another stupid question (why do you think I'm hangin'out in the Newbies section so much?):
How do the free software demo's from n-track, cakewalk, sonic foundry, etc. differ from the real thing? Can a newbie live on demo's alone?
In your response to my last topic (Software for Newbies), you suggested, in addition to N-Tracks, a wav editor such as GoldWave or CoolEdit. What's a wave editor? Does N-tracks not have a wav editor? Would the freebie software from Aardvark (as part of the Direct Pro 24/96) not have a wav...
